Yes. In fact, aside from spring, this is the primary time for seeding or overseeding lawns here in the PNW. Now through to early October (weather depending) is the ideal time.

Normally there are cautions about keeping the new seed adequately damp for good germination as this tends to be the driest part of our year. But this summer has been much damper than typical so you may not need to water as often as suggested. The seed just needs to stay damp - not wet - until fully germinated.

Probably best to wait until your back in town to start the seed as it requires careful watching in the early stages. How often to water depends on the weather. Just need to keep it evenly damp until it is growing well.

Agree that it might be best to wait. Our weather can be quite fickle. Although it has been damper than normal this summer, September can be very dry. And if the seed is allowed to dry out before full germination, your efforts will have been wasted. You should allow at least 2 full weeks (3 is better) after seeding to monitor the watering requirements.
