would this rug work?

I’ve been searching for a rug that would brighten up my dining room for a long time. Do you think the colors in this rug would work in my space?

Another affirmative vote for that rug. Nice choice!

I like the rug, but the pretty colors in the medallion will be covered up by the table and chairs. I wold find a rug that has an attractive border, because that is what will be most visible.

Thank you! I would love to see a mock-up before purchasing.

I agree with Chispa. If you cover the center medallion color, it doesn't look all that different (brightness/colorwise) from what you have now. There are some online sites that let you virtually try the rug in your room.

Not sure what size you need but this is on sale today at esale rugs 8x10 for $199, 9x12 = $279 with free shipping and returns:

If it doesn't appeal to you, take a look at their site (many here have purchased from them) and see if there is something you like that has more color on the borders.

The only other issue with this rug is it only comes in 7’10” x 10’3”. Or 9’3”x 12’6”. The 7x10 is too small. Do you think the bigger size would be too big? The tape measure is showing the length... it leaves very little space between the buffet and end of rug:(.

Do you think the 9’3” x 12’6” would work in my space?

What size is the rug that is currently there and what are the dimensions of the room? The 9 x 12 does look large but maybe not too too.

My current rug is an 8x10. Many houzzers have mentioned that it’s too small. The the room is 14.8/15” x 13.8.

Do you think the current rug size works or does it look too small?

Are there guidelines for selecting tge correct size rug for a room?

I think the 9x12 will look good. You still have a lot of wood showing around the rug, so you definitely have space for the 9x12.

Thank you for your response! So it’s okY if there are only a few inches between the end of rug and buffer?

Yes! You still have plenty of wood showing on either side of buffet.

If you need to confirm to yourself, maybe take some blue tape and put that down on the floor to show exact perimeter of rug.

    I think 9x12 will look great :-)

I think the rug would look great. You may consider changing out the drapes for more color also.

Thank you!! I think I’m finally going to purchase this rug after years of looking for one that would fit the space and work with the decor:).

Chipsa and sjs what do you think about the table covering the medallion? Do you think it’ll still bring life and color to the space?

Would anyone be able to do a mock up of the rug in my dining room?

Okay, I will update this post once the rug comes in:)

So I’m still over analyzing my rug decision. I have taken your suggestions into consideration. I have found some customer review pics of the rug being used in a dining room to show what it looks like with the medallion covered. I have also included a second rug that has caught my eye. What do you think would look better in my space?

Wow they are SOOOOO different! At first glance I preferred the traditional one. However, scrolling back through your thread and seeing what else is in your house and room, they both work really well and I might opt for the zebra one which is very uncharacteristic for me. Have to ask though is it an actual rectangle or is it really the shape of the body?

    It’s a rectangle

Do you think the traditional one would add more color? I think the zebra one looks richer, but fear it would look blah and too brown

So as you all know it takes me years to make a decision! I haven’t purchased the hillsby rug after reading some of the reviews stating it’s cheaply made and the colors are more of an orange and fish is color. Since then I’ve spotted this rug at pottery barn and like it. I’m wondering if someone might be able to do a mock up to see if the colors would go in my room. What do you think?
