    Echinocereus is an interesting Genus.

How are you doing this? Growing kit? Gro-lites?

Ordered seeds from eBay and cactus store

Hi Eric. Nice seedlings. Good luck with them. Have you started many other cacti or succulents from seeds?

Thanks! I've grown San Pedro and dragonfruit from seed before. I start everything from seed from lobelia to dionaea muscipula to sarracenia to hemerocallis and tons of other stuff. I like watching seeds grow, I guess.

I understand that the dragonfruit gets pretty big. Do you still have yours? How big did it get? How did you support their growth? Did they ever fruit for you?

No that was years ago. I had several seedlings and cuttings. Planted a bunch in the ground but never any fruit.

Well, I know you didn't ask, Eric, but that never stopped me from offering my two cents' worth, which are particularly valuable up here now, since Canada's gotten rid of the penny, but that's another story.

If you have Hylocereus undatus (dragon fruit plant) in the ground, you should be able to get it to flower/fruit in five years or so. How are you growing it?

Two cents are always welcome around here. My weather isn't ideal for dragonfruit. It gets cold before they're big enough to flower.

Ah, I thought you had them PIG'd (planted in ground). Yes, I understand completely.

    Echinocereus enneacanthus v brevispinus

    Mammillaria meiacantha

    Gymnocalycium baldianum

    Coryphantham macromeris

Put two forms of echinocereus pectinatus and three forms of echinocereus rigidissimus on soil today. Seeds from Mesa Gardens.

Looks like you and I are growing some of the same cacti from seed. I hope to grow some cold hardy cacti for my area. However, if the cacti I'm growing don't prove to be hardy enough to be outside all year then hopefully I can keep them some place chilly but a bit warmer than outside and sheltered for the winter.

Same plan I have. Going to try and grow them outdoors but if it's too cold I'll put them in my greenhouse.

Everyone is coming along nicely, Eric. When does it start to get cold in Kentucky and where will you put them then?

Thanks Stewart! It gets cold around the end of october. I'll probably bring them indoors until spring but I might put them in a heated greenhouse.

    Heated greenhouse! Nice! I’m jealous!

Haha don't be. It's just a harbor freight special. I have to cover it in bubble wrap during winter. Only way I can keep it from getting too cold.
