Instead of the "rinse" segment, I'd set the washer on a cool or warm wash on heavy soil and let it "wash" for the 16 minutes, then cancel the cycle and have it do a spin only for final segment.

I just got to thinking about another way to do it. How about if we put 1/2 of the sanitizer in the bleach compartment and the other half in the softener compartment? That way the product would be in the clothes for a longer period. Does that make sense?

I don't think so. These two segments (both post-wash rinses) are less than 5-7 minutes long at the most. The product is designed to be used at strength with exposure of the load to the solution it's contained in for 16 minutes.

I guess if you want to sanitize your laundry you need to leave the Lysol product in the rinse for 16 minutes. Years ago when I lived in an apartment I used to set a timer to remind me when the load was done. I would imagine you could do the same thing with a kitchen timer or a smartphone.

If you don’t mind me asking, why do you want to sanitize your clothing?
