I probably would not go bigger than the 54" which should comfortably sit 6. Have you considered getting an expandable table with a leaf that you could insert when you have guests and need more room? This would make the table more of an oval shape when fully expanded.

Hi Hu thanks for input. yes we considered maybe a 54” table with leaf as fe don’t want to go smaller then 54” for everyday. I will say we like more solid table with no leaf how crowded would a 54” be with 8 people or would it not really work.

It is possible, but I think it would be uncomfortable, not only side to side, but leg room underneath the table. You could also consider an oval table rather than round, but that might impede flow on a day to day basis. You could also have 6 around the table and then 2 of the kids at the peninsula seating, but that in my opinion is not ideal. I would suggest that you go to a furniture store and physically set up a 54 inch round table with 8 chairs and see how comfortable it would feel to you. Consider people getting up and sitting down and the leg room underneath. One thing I would absolutely suggest if you are going to attempt 8 at that size table is to get one with a pedestal stand rather than 4 legs at the corners. This will open up the leg area under the table for ease of getting up and down.

Consider a dining table with a race track shape as it works well in a limited area and because it isn't square it can seat more people comfortably if need be. It is narrower than a round table.

I just finished a remodel and have a limited size dining "area" - not room and selected a dining table with a race track shape and pedestal base.
