As a vacation rental manager for 17 years, I suggest you keep it simple and get a spread, not a duvet, that you can wash regularly. Maybe you want to get two of them so one can be in the wash and the other on the bed. Remove the dust ruffle, as it will just catch dust and they were not even invented when this bed was in style White bedding and spread; then color via pillows and a throw at the foot of the bed. I would remove the shelf from the corner. Have you considered painting the bed to match the pipe shelving in the kitchen? It is a small open space and that would help unify the look a bit better. More pix of your space will yield some good ideas you probably haven't thought of yet. Consider pin up wall lamps.

I can’t get a feel for the space from those pics but I don’t think you have room for a rug Is there no other space for the bed maybe post some more pics of the space or a floor plan to scale.

No thoughts as to color or what, but Patricia, some sort of rug IS called for where people step out of bed.

Spread yes, duvet NO. Too difficult for house keeping and haven for bedbugs.

Make sure you install a sealed cover for both the box spring and mattress that is waterproof and bed bug proof. They sell them on Amazon

Based on the appearance of the kitchen, this bed would look better if it were a black finish IMO
