Well, it is very difficult to say without more photos of the room and context. Rooms in a given house need to flow from one to another. So, is the house is filled with jewel tones or is the home more neutral tones?

With the given information, I would recommend painting the walls a cream tone that is in the rug. In this bedroom, imagine the wallpaper is the rug. I'd keep the rest of the room light, but with textures. You can add touches of the mauve and teal here and there.

Hi. I will start with disclosing I am not a design professional:). However as I read you post I am reminded my dilemma a couple years ago. I wanted a natural to go with my dark purple accent wall in my bed room. The designer I worked with recommended revere pewter by Benjamin Moore. I really like it in my bed room but not so much in my kitchen since it picks up a different tone in my kitchen where it looks more tan.

Benjamin Moore Whispering Spring is a light aqua. It is a muted color and not too bright. It would look lovely with that beautiful rug.

Random thoughts:

- The two must-stay elements both say 80s, but I do like them.

- Right now you're seeing A LOT of the rug ... keep in mind that once the mattress is in place, you'll only see twice as much.

- You didn't mention night stands, but hopefully something wood with brass accents.

- I agree with the idea of buying linens first, then paint. Paint exists in every shade of the rainbow.

- At a glance, I think I'd try for sheets that mimic the rug color ... covered by a white coverlet. Then lamps in the teal range.

- Finally paint and curtains somewhere in the cream family.

My vote would be for a creamy buttery yellow, teal or a deep beige.

I like the idea of a very soft beige.. You can always tie in the colors of the carpet w/ bedding pillows or a throw on the bed.

The rug has lots of pinky tones in it and pink is hard to decorate around. Beige may look like you did a poor job of matching the pink, so I would go for a pale, almost washed out version of the teal instead. We can't see how the rug lies, but if there is room, you might turn it the other direction for a more updated look in the space. Ben Moore and Sherwin Williams both make a paint color called Sea Salt that might work for you. Depending on the light and exposure of the space it can look blue, green or gray.

There is a blog called House of Turquoise that might be helpful. Www.houseofturquoise.com It shows all sorts of great teal/turquoise color combinations. I’d say have a little chinoiserie fun with the asian aspect of that rug, but the brass bed would not work with that theme. In any event, the website has a lot of great ideas.

I'd let the bed and rug be the focal points and keep the rest simple.

There is a green in the rug and I would go with a very pale color of that green you have enogh aqua and IMO beige would just be blah and I agree once the mattress is in a lot less rug will show. I agree to keep the bedding simple and again a color from the rug maybe a soft pink
