Yes, to what Home Interiors with Easesaid. I would also eliminate any furniture that is not necessary, i.e. the mini desk. In such a small space you need all the available room you can get. FB marketplace is a great place to sell such items or relocate it to another room.

That sofa needs to go back to the wall this is such a small space you need every inch to make it work not sure why walking over the rug is an issue. If you really want an eating table why not get a coffee table tha riases up and becomes a dining table then you could just have some stacking chirs in a closet.The furniture is really too large for the space so since it is needed get rid of evry little table that does not serve a purpose like the little shelf unit if you don’t need the desk get rid of it and maybe put your ottoman there . The fewer pieces the better ina small space.

Thanks everyone! We've really used the dining table in the corner and it doesn't get in the way so for function I'm going to keep it even if it looks like too much furniture.

I will move the sofa and rug tonight and see how it looks! The previous renters had their sofa against the wall and it felt a little far from the TV and less cozy but my couches are also larger so I'll definitely try it to open up the space.

One other issue is there's no overhead lighting which is why there are so many lamps in the room at the moment. They're all lamps I previously owned, so they don't necessarily work in the space and may be too large.

The new layout isn’t terrible, it is better than the initial layout as having the couch so far from the wall made the room seem so much smaller, perhaps even cluttered because of everything else going on.

The only thing though is with the new layout I would go for a larger rug. The rug is also very pretty, but have you considered something lighter that would go better with your gorgeous floor and light couches?

I agree with others that the new layout looks better and that you need a larger rug. You could also just layer rugs with your current rug. A large jute rug under your current rug would look very nice.

I would also remove the footstool, small desk and paint your tv stand antique white or pale grey.

I think I’d try and flip the layout. I wouldn’t normally suggest it but try the couch between the windows and the tv on the opposite wall. I think that would give you nicer straight entry into the space. Can you get rid of one sofa and replace with smaller chairs? Also as other said get all unnecessary furniture out of the room.

Agree that the sofa against the wall is much better. Larger rug or layered as suggested above is a great idea.

Please move your coffee table so it is within 18 inches or so of the sofa. Right now it looks like an island:)

I do like the idea of rug layering! The footstool is more for function than looks - ideally we will replace the coffee table with one large ottoman at some point but right now we move it over to put our feet up when we watch TV. Since this is a rental and we won't be here long term, I want to keep both couches even though they don't work super well together

Looks much better! Love the idea of layering rugs..find yourself a inexpensive sisal or neutral rug in a 8x10 for under the rug you have....remove that small coffee table and just pull that big neutral ottoman over in front of the sofa facing TV..get a tray to put on it to hold beverages when needed...it will look much better with a few adjustments.

Yes, consider a 9x12. It will make all the difference. You could alway move this rug to another room.

what is the size of your room...9x12 seems too big..when layering you only want a foot or two of other rug showing.

The room is 13'3" by 16'6"

Anything longer than 10’ will interfere with your dining area...stick with 8x10

Hmm that is a odd measurement on the rug you have.....take a measurement from entry wall to back of dining chair pulled out 24” from table..to allow it easy moving when in use..than measure from a foot away from front of the TV media cabinet to opposite wall....

Added new thin console table near the entry

Still looking for a jute 8x10 rug to layer underneath the rug I have. Looking second hand since only about 1 foot in each direction will show

Added bookshelf that matches the console table as well.
