One company told us we needed a header and could not go frameless. Another company said we could. Six years no issues with completely frameless.

So no movement at all? How long was your glass on the door side? Thanks and sorry for the double post. I can’t figure out how to edit on my phone.

You need a support bar. We did one at an angle across the corner left on this wall. You can just barely see it. If your door isn’t hinged to the solid wall, like ours is here, you will have movement. We got a hinge in the pony wall here, but the whole was unstable without the support bar.

Our door is attached to glass on either side, not to the wall. No movement. The glass on one side is only nine inches. The glass on the other side is 2 feet. The bottom of the door is at the floor. Not a step up like the photo above.

I should have mentioned, that the door would be directly hinged to the wall. Wouldn’t that stabilize it, without the need for a support bar or header? The glass above the knee wall is fixed. Thanks for all the replies.

None of us can see your configuration. If your on site professional says that it needs support, and you don’t want it, get another paid on site evaluation from another professional. But be careful that you aren’t “opinion shopping” with someone who will just sell you what you want regardless. You don’t want to end up with shattered glass covering your bathroom as a result. .

Zeneca- I hope everything turns out well and you are happy. Definitely get at least another professional opinion. Our frameless glass was completed by a very reputable local glass company. I did not insist on no header or no support bar. They simply told me it could be done.

Door hinged to the wall should be fine. The fixed panel is almost 5' wide but on a knee-wall should be fine without a header. I would use 3/8" Glass if it were me. Be sure the glass is set in a channel or 3 clips.
