The only bathroom in a house that could have a barn door is the one from the master to the master bathroom there is no way to get privacy or sound deadening with a barndoor in a public bathroom

If the door swing is a problem, then a pocket door could be a good solution. Barn doors were a fad, now over, and would only make your hallway narrower.

I will second the barn door=NO PRIVACY. Be sure when using them that is not a NEED.

What did you decide? We have a similar issue yet the hallway bathroom has laundry and with swinging door into bathroom it’s cramped. I was thinking pocket door but not sure it can be done so barndoors?

We LOVE our bathroom barn door in our very narrow NYC hallway, a swing door would have gobbled way too much usable space.

The millennials in our building ooh and aah, point and say "oh look at the barn door, it's so cool" every time they come in (which is often.)

If someone's $#it is so stinkin' bad that a barn door with good ventilation in a bathroom is that big of a problem, log off your computer and get yourself to your doctor, pronto!

Your hallway looks great and 38 inches is more than enough room.

-I have used a bathroom with an oversized barn door which provided plenty of privacy.
-pockets doors cost too much for an already existing home and are above my DIY skill level.
