Question about pillows/inserts

This may be a dumb question -- but I found some really nice throw pillow covers on Houzz. Normally I buy pillows with the inserts already with, so this is why I never wondered about it before. The covers are 20" x 20". Should I get an insert that is also 20" or a 22"? I am afraid the exact size would be tough to get on but I don't want extra material around the edges either. Thanks.

Try a slightly smaller cover than insert. 18x18 for a 20x20. It'll look fuller and more expensive and no extra on the edges. Not a dumb question at all.

Determine whether you want synthetic or feather/down too. I recently switched to synthetic because they hold their shape and density/firmness, feathers don’t poke through, and they don’t get dust mites. Feather/down has a more luxurious feel though.
