Can a master closet be too big?

I have space to do a master closet as big as: a section 7 x 7 ft interior, and another section 15 x 12 ft.

It is a continuous space imagine the state of Utah but stretched out a bit. Closet doors on the longer side.

So a total of about 230 sf.

It is possible to decrease the 15 foot section. If there is no cut out, the closet could be a long rectangle 7 ft x 22 ft. This would be over 150 sf but long and skinny.

There can also be a decrease in the bump out to (anywhere between 7 feet and 15 feet) x 12 feet, next to the 7x7 section.

What would you suggest? My thought is go big and find use for the extra space.

If not closet, the extra space goes to a garage that is already oversized so no negative to the garage to lose the 5 foot by 15 foot section of garage if given to closet.

Any negatives to a too big closet?

Where do you live? We are in Florida. I would do a big closet, it would awesome to have that much a/c space for storage. If you do not need the space for clothes, it could always be designed for holiday and decor storage.

No never too big! My master has two room sized closets 11'x14' each and we love it! I actually wish they were maybe a little bigger!

I guess it would depend on how much clothes you have or what needs to be stored.

When it comes to women for them no closet is ever to big, not to mention every closet is stretchable because new items always go in and nothing ever comes out LOL.

I guess I'm not like most women. I don't feel the need to have a lot of clothing or shoes. Our master closet is on the smaller side and actually my DH has more clothes than me.

Depends on what you need to store and if there is any wasted space. Closets don't need much floor space, and you're talking about a closet that's bigger than many secondary bedrooms. I love storage as much as the next person, but I'd want it to be useful and accessible to an area that makes sense (e.g., front hall closet for guest coats, umbrellas, vacuum etc. vs master suite for my clothes.) Please do post a floor plan and maybe folks can give you some better advice.

Thanks. The comments help. Here is my post with floor plan from last year. We are NOT doing a door from the new closet to the garage. The question is how big to make the new closet. It will have doors on both ends, double doors from the master and a single door in the hall by the laundry room. The pencil lines I drew are straight across. I am now thinking to do a bump out for most of it. The indent is for the door to the "hobby room" that is storage room between the existing garage and house. And we can use as a mudroom.

When it comes to women for them no closet is ever to big, [....]

My husband tells me, "Buying new clothes for yourself is like giving ME gifts." ;-) I have a hard time justifying too many clothes (even though I love pretty things) with my boatload of kids, but he more-or-less makes me, lol.

[...] not to mention every closet is stretchable because new items always go in and nothing ever comes out LOL.

Hey! :-) One day, I absolutely WILL fit into that dress again! ;-)

To the OP, if it were me, since my husband and I are pretty much equally clothed (although I definitely have more shoes), I would do the 7'x22' and split it down the middle for His/Hers. Or maybe do 7'x9' for each, with a shared 4' space in the middle for shoes, ties, belts, etc.
