The wreath and stick arrangement are doing you no favors, and the first thing I noticed is that the shuttered mirror appears heavier than the table beneath, giving the impression that the whole arrangement is precarious and that the mirror could fall and crush the table. It is also a bit wide for the table and hung too high. Try it closer to the table and then weight the table with something on the bottom shelf to counterbalance the mirror's volume. Limit the items on top to visually heavier and more weighty things. What's there now is too delicate for the rustic feeling of the shutters. If you prefer the mirror or table, you might want to consider removing the other piece and starting over to get a better visual match between the two decor pieces.

I’m curious what you have in adjacent areas. Agree with others. This smallish space would benefit from a good editing. I’m not understanding how the console and mirror work together for you, unless you are maybe seeing them as two separate genres and now wish to fix it? You might want to consider which look you want...casual country or more traditional. Photos are always very helpful!

That is what I was thinking but my husband through it looked good. What does he know?!? I was trying to repurpose some of our decorations from our old house but I didn’t think it worked with that table. What about the wall color? We were thinking wainscoting down the hallway.

He’s also mad at me because I think the table is too dark and we just bought it. Oops!

Scale bothers me. I would go vertically more. Pick runner with dark color , so it would tie up with console.

Kind of feels like you need a rug and some art.

I also believe in repurposing whenever and where ever possible. Celery girl is showing how using both elements (dark and light) together can tie together your old with the new. I love that carpet and I’m wondering if you live where you have to deal with the weather, i.e. tracked in dirt, mud, etc. and if you have young children who use the front door? If so an off-white might not be a good choice? The medium gray walls are fine if that’s a hue you really dig? As for wainscoting down the hall, we would certainly benefit from more visuals (photos). LOL

I don't see anything to tie together. The entry seems to stand on its own with nothing to be tied to except, perhaps, in terms of style. Get rid of the fake greenery, choose a piece of art you adore, then add one tall thing and one low thing, and perhaps a runner in front.

Or follow the direction of your entry ideabook with a round mirror that's 3/4 the width of the console, a tall lamp on one side, a real plant on the other.

Everything gone except console and mirror. Add one wide, low table lamp.

Add baskets on bottom shelf of console.

why put a wreath over the mirror?? defeats the purpose unless you had recent death. if you like the dark console, then decorate it like this one: (on the right)

it's a long space, but what you have is underwhelming. some wainscot or a longer console would work better.

I think a long bench, a plant, and a larger mirror (no wreath) or a beautiful piece of art would look better

but, if you want the console, then decorate it like one of these:

you could always lay down a runner

eat up some of the wall space with well-spaced photos in matching frames.

I would replace your large mirror with a round one, take the stuff off of the console and add a few well-curated pieces, a lamp if you have an outlet behind and a gorgeous runner for the floor.

Thank you all for the much needed input! It doesn’t look like it but the table is actually a very dark brown. We are located in central Florida. So tracking in mud will not be much of an issue.

When you walk in it opens to a “dining room”. However it may end up as a piano room for our kids or study.

Our house is a blank slate. We just built it!

Do avoid clutter posing as art. or decoration -- not a fan of wreaths indoors -- maybe move it outside on your porch/portico/stoop if there is an appropriate place -- or just save it to decorate it for the holidays.

Are those peacock feathers? Without the wreath "crowding" the space, I'd like them.

Really like the wainscoting idea.

The right non-skid runner could both look good and protect your flooring.

The idea to add a couple of decorative items to the bottom shelf of the table is a good one. Consider: a basket or a decorative bowl or a statue or even a family treasure (such as unused colorful or decorative cookie jar) or an attractive wood box into which you can "hide" a purse or even to store a flashlight and/or candles and matches in case of a power outage.

jella, do you want to find a mirror the same or similar to the one I posted? I like it because it gives the impression of a window such as what you were attempting with your mirror/shutter combo. It comes in several finishes if you want a certain look.

Karen, I did some late night online shopping after the kids went to bed. I found one on Wayfair and another at Kirkland. We have a Kirkland near us so hoping to stop this week to see what they have.
