I’d ditch the mirror. You have quite a few up already. A beautiful coat rack would be stylish and practical.

Agree!! I dislike the mirror and it will definitely have to go! You can see the chair I had for the corner, its antique french, but it's just not working as it is. I can try to have it stained darker. Would love a coat rack but wonder if I can fit both a rack and a seat without people hitting their heads on the rack when they get up.

Beautiful home! I agree that it's mirror overload in that part of your home. A beautiful piece of art would be great on the 27" wall. Do you have a coat closet in the foyer where shoes can go? A small bench or table under a piece of art could be a drop zone for a bag or keys. Or is the front door rarely used?

The chair is lovely but I think your gut is telling you the right thing that it just doesn't work there.

Do you really need a coat rack? Your house is so lovely that if you can get away without one, I think it would be a plus not to have one. But if you really want one, look for a bench that rather than is the whole width of the staircase would be about half the size instead and would go near the bottom of the stairs and then put the coat rack in in front of the mirror wall. You will not need the art or anything on that wall as the coat rack would just cover it up.

There is a big closet in the hallway on the left where we put guests’ coats. Their shoes normally stay by the front door which is not great.

I can do without the coat rack for sure. I wanted the chair to work but unfortunately it just doesn’t as it is.

If you get a long bench that is open underneath guest can tuck their shoes under it.

I think you should coose the piece of art first then do the cushion on the chair in a color from the art the chair needs to be a bit more present IMO

Beautiful chair. I wonder how it would look parallel with the 27" wall rather than angled. Then add a piece of art, as suggested above, in place of the mirror.

In looking at the chair more closely, I realize that I am not a fan of the pillow-style cushion. It doesn't really seem like it belongs. Is the seat bottom caned like the back? I am assuming the pillow is not attached, so I would remove it. After all, this isn't a chair used for comfort seating.

The seat is canes under the cushion and the cushion absolutely does not belong! I stole it from my family room sofa.

How do you like the look of the chair, as it was designed, without the cushion? It really is a lovely chair.

How about an antique piano stool in the area, with some botanical framed prints going vertically and some well placed hooks on the facing wall.

A small bench as Grover and others suggest, with artwork replacing the mirror.

I always like a foyer that relates to the adjoining spaces, showcasing a bit of your style and hinting at what can be anticipated elsewhere. You have a lot of lovely furniture. Why not add a beautiful fern in a chinoiserie cache pot to the corner and a slim bench on the wall opposite the stairs?

I did buy it off an antique shop and shipped it over- I did love it. Not sure if I like the “dirty” finish on it. But “making it work” is exactly what I’m hoping to do.

This is what my foyer looks like. A bit more casual and the area next to my stairs is a bit longer than yours. The bench is from Target and right now has my teenagers' gym shoes on it.

Thank you Haley! Thanks to all of you for the amazing ideas and remarks. So I pulled this silk rug, which I had purchased in an old city in Turkey, and tried to set it on the 27" wall. I photoshopped it over the chair and want your thoughts if that might be something to consider. The color definitely fits the theme, but also this rug has a personal value. To put it on the wall, I have the option of mounting it like a tapestry with a rod (little room for rod anchors), or framing with a subtle frame. Would you suggest this is something that I can consider? Then I can think about staining the chair or just getting a suitable cushion to go with that mini rug.

Here’s an actual “mock up” but without the chair cushion yet. My ferns are outside and wet, so I used another plant I had in my kitchen.

I would suggest pulling the chair out from the wall just a smidge. To me it looks a little forced pushed up against the wall. Maybe even try it not on the 45 but angled more along one of the walls?

I’ve slept on it for a while... I took a trip to Barcelona where of course I visited Picasso’s museum. Fell in love with his blue period and bought this “ blue vase” print. I’m playing with it and need your input. It goes from simple to busy in the pictures. The table and lamp are for the concept only. If the votes are for the lamp, I will find a more suitable one.

Ah, the Picasso museum in Barcelona brings back memories. There was a street artist out front who had painted herself to look like one of Picasso's cubist women. She was fabulous.

I love the painting and pillow and, of course, the chair. I think my favorite of your three vignettes is the middle one. The angle of the chair is most welcoming and the sheepskin provides a nice touch of softness.

I haven't been 'on' but I saw something beautiful here - I like that you like your new art, and the chair wow.... table seems a place to stop but not to admire the art [imo remove table]…. and if you like the rugsy - keep it! Thanks for sharing your home.

I like the sheepskin but not in that location. If you want people to sit on that chair to take off and put on shoes, the sheepskin is going to get dirty. It would be a shame to put the chair there but have guests afraid to use it because the rug will get stepped on with shoes. I would go for a small oriental rug in that space and use the sheepskin in a bedroom.

Since the space is so tight , I would just put one pop up shaped kinda mirror , adding a mirror always makes the area/ room look

Option 1- put two small colorful round ottomans , so it would look stylish and give room for someone who wants to remove thier shoes while sitting on the chair along with a mirror on wall

Option 2- mirror on the wall With just small bench , on which u can sit as well guest can put theirs shoes below it

I agree with the previous poster that nobody’s gonna be putting dirty boots on that sheepskin. But it all looks so darn pretty! (Function is overrated sometimes!!!)

Hm, I disagree. With the intricate details on the chair, the ornate frame, the throw and the pillow I find the sheepskin one step too many. My favourite setup is the first. I love the repetition of the blue in the pillow, btw.

IMO the matting should go with the art and yours fits the art beautifully. I’d keep it!

I'm not sure why you are putting a pillow on that chair as I think the chair back is fabulous and should be shown and not hidden by some pillow. As a guest I would question whether I should sit on the chair or not as the pillow takes up a lot of room, too. If you want to bring color consider a seat cushion or a small lumbar pillow instead. Though I think you don't need either as let the print be your color and the chair be your texture interest. And I'd rethink the rug as I see no relationship to the other pieces there or anywhere near it.

Love the new artwork and the way it is framed. Agree with Ted, show odd that gorgeous chair, no need for pillow and throw. A small lumbar might work. I also think you should try your gorgeous silk rug on the floor in that space again.

Throw the throw on the chair and place an elegant pillow - but undo the formal a bit with fluffy rug and it's almost carefree.... that's how I feel about it. ;)

Dana, that chair is so interesting and cute, you should use it if you can. And IMO, with the blue Picasso and the blue pillow, it rocks. Even if no one ever sits in it, it's a beautiful vignette.
