workspace area help

I am aware this room has lots of issues and needs lots of design help, but my main concern right now is figuring out a workspace area. My husband and I both need a separate area to be able to work in. This is a pretty good size room. I am just stumped.

Are you both going to work in this room, or just one of you? What happens if someone is ill, or just needs to sleepor rest? Any other areas of your home to coordinate workspace?

@valinta- we will both be working in this room. On occasion I will drag all of my things to the dining room table, but it’s a major pain.

A suggestion. Put your chest of drawers on the wall beside your bed where the flip flops are. Then get an L shaped desk so that you have one side of the L and your husband has the other side. You will have to move the leaning mirror and the things on the floor but seems that would work for both of you. May even be place for a bookcase sort of thing in the corner between the desks...or put an overhead cupboard above one of the desks and of course leave the TV above the other desk. IF there is not room for the chest of drawers beside your bed, then move it to the left (where it is now) as far as you can and you can probably get an L shaped desk in there for you and your husband. Another idea....put your chest of drawers on the wall where the corner mirror is....would there be room for another desk where the chest is now?

Could you get a second desk and put them back to back? Or - maybe just a big table - like a small kitchen/dining table (4-top size) would work. You could each have a side and just have two chairs.

I think you need either a second desk that’s the same, or one bigger one that can fit two chairs, computers, etc.

I would move the bed and bedside tables opposite the door where the child is standing, adding appropriate sized lamps. Put the tall chest between the windows and wall mount the TV above it on an articulated arm. Use the corner for two desks, one on each wall. If you work more casually, one of you might enjoy a rolling bed desk.

Double the length of the desk and the fullness of the drapes. The room is begging for art.

I would do back to back desks or tables pushed up to the TV wall.

Here’s another suggestion for dual workstations. Move chest to other wall by the bed.

You seem to have the most available space against the wall under the TV. You don’t say what you each do, but if you each need a surface and some storage, you could place matching desks back-to-back in that location.
Simple work surfaces may be fine if you use minimal materials (laptop, pad of paper, pens and pencils) and don’t need storage or files available in the same area. If you use numerous items in your space, you need somewhere to put them away to avoid a cluttered area.

My husband uses a laptop and two extra screens. I do any and all craft projects there. I don’t have nearly enough surface space due to his things and I could really use some storage space.

@decoenthusiate I actually love the idea of moving the whole room around and lamps have been on my list, but I’ve never got around to actually doing it.

@groveraxle I love that mock up, but I would still need some storage areas for all of my stuff.

How much time do you each spend working there? 8 hours a day, five days a week? Or an hour at night and a few hours on weekends?

There are some clever fold down desks that may work for you.

Replace the desk with a larger one that has drawers for files, etc. add a small cabinet to replace the white unit next to desk.

Those beds with the rolling desk over them are super cool - but as a full time telecommuter I can’t imagine they’d be good for productivity! (At least not me... I’d end up napping with my dog most days!) but very cool and great use of space if they work for others!!

@apple_pie_order we usually spend several hours a night working, but not usually on the same days. I do sometimes have to drag my whole operation to the dining room table and that is terrrible.

@Kate E I’m afraid it would be the same for me. I’d end up napping, reading, or watching Netflix.

Hi, you have a good looking space here.
You typically would want the TV and bed to face each other, but if you don’t spend too much time watching tv in bed then here’s another suggestion

    1. Move the bed to the blank wall so it’s facing the door where your kid is in photo
    2. the chest of drawers goes between the windows
    3. you get two desk in line with the door where the child is standing so it would opposite the bed.
    4. the TV wall could then have some small credenza or table underneath it for storage
    5. get small back heights chairs for the desk, so they don’t visually stand in the way
If this doesn’t make sense then let me know, I can sketch it up for you if you provide the room size.

    Agree with groveraxle.

Pull the rug back to the wall (beneath the headboard), put the mirror on a door and then use two tables/desks facing each other with one end of each against the wall beneath the tv.
