Do you mean yellow jackets? They are the main ones I think of as mean and aggressive. I mowed over a yellow jacket hole once and was stung many times. Didn't have to go to the hospital but it hurt for days and itched for a couple of weeks. It's good to slow down sometimes outside and watch for yellow jackets flying in and out of holes, and it is good to keep an eye out for hornets nests and for spiders and snakes. Not long ago I felt something on my neck and reached up and swept it away. It was a pretty big wasp. It didn't sting me. Probably would have if it had been a yellow jacket. Wonder why they're so much meaner.

Usually I am just cautious about where I mow and dig. But after your experience I will be a little slower about weeding too.

Oh no Henry !! Hope you recover quickly!! I had to clean up 100 or so rotting pears that had all dropped and attracted tons of bees . I was praying the whole time they wouldn’t sting me bc they didn’t care that I was cleaning them up they just kept coming for the pears !

Made my husband cut down that tree! Not worth all the mess

Henry, I'm sorry to hear and am relieved it wasn't even worse. Good that you erred on the side of caution. I usually find one ground hive every year and as they never use the same spot twice, I just try to avoid them until they move. It is easy to miss them among the weeds.

Henry, so sorry to hear about your reaction to the stings! Bee/wasp stings can be life threatening for some people. I am so glad you were able to get to the hospital and get treated. Take it easy this weekend.

That's terrible Henry! I'm so very sorry you ended up in the ER! I certainly hope they were able to give you some topical analgesics to ease the pain as I can just imagine how bad it must have been, or still is - horrible! I was stung by a yellow jacket two years ago one evening as I was rushing to finish my gardening chores. Didn't see the hive in the dusk and ended up stepping on it, so I was stung by one angry yellow jacket. I was lucky because it was a very chilly evening, so their movement was substantially slower than normal. Even though it's just one sting, it hurt for nearly two weeks afterwards. I hope you recover as soon as possible - sending best wishes!

Feel better Henry...I was stung roughly only 6 times my whole life...BUT this year i was stung 4 times already so now 10 total..Feel better!

Hope you are feeling better. I got stung a bunch of times once by wasps that used to like to build nests in my standard purple bougainvillea. I went to water it and they attacked.

The wasps build papery nests in our porch eaves and window sills at the end of the summers. I noticed some started a few days ago. At least maybe that means fall is closing in and cooler weather might arrive soon.

Hopefully you have fully recovered.

I trust you were not bankrupted by your ER visit, here in the USA ( the only [great] country [the best country] where such a thing is prevalent).

Though not as much a worry for those on Medicare.

How are you Henry? Are you better today? I am so sorry! Who knew gardening can be so perilous. Lets us know as you get better!

Hope they took good care of you in ER, that’s quite a scare.

I had to look up ground bees, had no idea there was such a thing, they look quite like honeybees.

To answer your questions for details. Friday afternoon I was
pulling some weeds in a rose garden. Unfortunately, there was a bee's nest
there in the ground. The bees attacked
me and chased me into the garage. I grabbed a spray can of wasp killer and
tried spraying, but the bees were already on me. I then ran into the house and
called my wife Barbara (who is an RN) for help. Together, we tried to get them all off. Barbara got
one bee sting on her arm. After we got the bees
off, Barbara called 911 and explained to them that I had an allergy to bees, but
that I wasn't having a severe life threatening problem at that moment. They said that they would send an emergency
team to check me and they did (the fire station is very near us). They counted 10 stings. The stings were on my face,
arms, hands, legs, and feet. The bees were very aggressive. The EMR guys said that they were ground bees. They said that after they sting once, they
keep on stinging.
They recommended that they take me to the
hospital with them to be observed (because of the number of stings).

They took me to the Aultman Hospital
Emergency Center and Barbara followed by car.
We had a long wait, but we were in a safe environment; and if I would
suddenly have had a problem, I could always call someone over. They checked me out and said that it was
possible that I was not allergic to that type of bees. They said that you could be allergic to only
honey bees and or wasps. At the hospital, they gave me Benadryl and
told us to put hydrocortisone ointment on the bee stings. They suggested that I
follow up in about 4 days with my family doctor. We hope to see him tomorrow.

This morning I felt that the swellings around the
bites were larger. Now (8.02 P.M), they seem a little smaller.

What a horrible encounter! Those nasty bees were so very aggressive! Fortunately your local EMT was quick to get you to the hospital for observation. I hope your doctor's visit tomorrow will confirm you are on your way to recovery, and the swelling and discomfort will ease off soon. Please take care!

Not sure why someone would send that to you. I don't see you as a bee killer at all. You were placed in an unfortunate circumstance and responded accordingly.
