Love the ceiling but agree with your husband. The cabs with the ceiling would be too much.

I would keep the ceiling and do a Shaker door for the cabinets.

You're going to have a fabulous laundry room. Love the ceiling and that is a great back door! Having laundry envy cuz my laundry room is stuck in the basement, no window and isn't much bigger than a closet. (I painted the walls pure white & painted the concrete floor a nice clean turquoise just for fun so it makes me smile even though it's tiny.)
