as for the board samples you brough home, I don't care for the gray, the wavy multi blues/whites I like, don't care for the larger tiles, too dull looking. I mean, if you want dull/subdued, they work fine.

in the Havana sample, maybe. I could see the muddled blue/brownish tones working w/your cabs and flooring, if you want to do something more subdued

I don’t think you need a backsplash in that small area. I would install washable decorative wallpaper instead.

well of course she doesn't need it. really, no one needs tile backsplash. with washable paint and SS panels behind the stove, there really is no need for anything.

But, here's the thing feliz,,,,some people like it. some people like tile, and color and patterns. Our homes are filled with things we don't need. Should we not have them? Her question wasn't, "do I need a backsplash", but rather "help w/laundry room tile",,,,, But thanks for the input, I'm sure she appreciates your opinion.

Beth, I like the green but I don’t want to be forever locked into that one accent color. If I went that bright and colorful, I would rather have a bunch of colors somehow (did you see the Old Havana Mix in that last picture I posted- it has a lot of colors but it’s so subdued). I agree with you on all my samples but it was worth a shot to at least see what was bad. The flooring I have is several years old already, way before I started thinking about replacing my cabinets. We went with the LVT because that room has been a hard working hobby-farm mud room. That same floor is in the adjacent hallway coming in from the garage, the bathroom across the hall and also the kitchen. It has really held up beautifully considering what it has gone through.

Felizlady, I did think about wallpaper so it is a good suggestion! My husband and I know how to tile and hang wallpaper so I could’ve gone either way. The walls in that room are textured so aren’t ready for wallpaper but that could be fixed. I will admit that I often start thinking I know what I want and then end up with something totally different and that’s what this community helps people do. I think, though, that I’m settled on tile. Why? I have no good reason. Lol.

DK, I brought a selection of whites and off whites home about a month ago, but I want to take a chance on something bolder. I see how the colored grout could really give it a different look though! Thanks!

can you wallpaper the far wall and just do some tile on that small part? they also have peel and stick tiles. maybe easier to change out down the road if you get tired of the color?

those porcelain tiles would be nice for the mudroom. LVT has a shelf life, so maybe when it's time to switch it out, go for the porcelain?

In my opinion, you can justify spending a bit more money on smaller spaces!

I suggest going with a shiny type of tile to add some interest. Perhaps mother of pearl? These are gorgeous and all from Tile Bar. There are several more on the website....

I love the blue wavy tiles on the washer, that one is not favorite so far :)

Something to keep in mimd- most floor tiles are heavy duty, built to withstand traffic and weight. Most are not suitable for use on the wall due to the fact that they are a heavier- thicker tile that has a tendency to want to lay flat, due to gravity,

You can always add wall art to liven-up the room. on the wall opposite the machines, amd a colorful flower vase on the counter . The samples you brought home are not as fun as most of Beth's examples. If you are so undecided, just wait. Finish the trim and see how the room makes you feel or how you want to make it feel. The pictures posted above are a great idea also. You could put a pice of art there.

Well...sorry for the long time between posts but I ended up ordering 4 different boxes of samples from Tilebar and going to 3 more stores in my area that carry small amounts of tile and lugging them home and back. I feel like I could open my own tile shop!

I have some favorites and so does my husband. They range in price from $6-$40 a square foot. I need about 20 square feet. They are all very different so that makes me wonder about my ability to decorate anything correctly. I will post each one below since adding pictures seem to load better that way on my iPad.

of course I like the most expensive option! lazy river. but did you look at GlassTileOasis or DiscountGlassTileStore? they have tons of options at a better price.

The sacramento is ok, maybe a little dull. If they had it in a blue, maybe?

Thanks Beth! The Sacramento came in tan, teal, green and gray. I have the tan and gray and they are both the wrong color. Good point on the bayou, I will take it out of the running.

We both like the Sacramento but does the white go ok with the countertop? I’ll add another picture that shows the color pretty well.

I think the Lazy River is beautiful but I think it could be a challenge to put up since we are doing it ourselves. It would be pretty expensive to mess up!

I like the sacramento and don't think the white will clash. it seems to be it's own color. If you don't mind a brighter white in the back, I think it should work.

Crazy but I have that very first sample board tile in my kitchen. With the yellow and white tones. I love it because when installed on the wall it looks like exposed brick. I’ll post pictures tomorrow with some sunlight. My only regret is that I went with the yellow tones. I would highly recommend the gray or white color wave or your room is gonna be all matchy matchy. I Love the one Beth H posted above. Good color story and pattern contrast.

I have ordered 8 more samples and will take pictures of some of the blues I already have as soon as I have time. I skipped over ordering the Norwalk mix (in Beth’s post above) because it said ‘floor’ in the title - I’ll give it a shot. Good thing I’m not in a hurry! Lol Stay tuned!

I don’t think you really need a tile backsplash in the laundry room since there is no sink. I would consider a simple painted back wall or wallpaper (or a stenciled design). The primary use of the counter will be as a folding area.

when they say 'floor tile' it just means it's suitable to walk on. it can still go on the wall. i just installed my cement tiles on the wall in my kitchen.

More tiles came today in the mail. Al of the Norwalk tiles are a greeny blue and don’t look good. The picture actually makes it look better than it is so you’ll have to trust me. However Beth’s other suggestion may just be a winner. See next post and tell me what you think.

Here are a couple in denim (Easton Ridge and Easton Mesa). They are clay so I will have to see how that changes installation but I’m really liking both.

heikri, if I had to choose one of the blues, I'd go w/the grooved, larger one. they are both pretty, so it's a hard choice.

as for the flowered square one,,,i like that too! just depends on your design choice that you want.

How much wall shows in the room? Instead of going with color on the tile maybe a wallpaper would be any option.

I think I’m going to order one of these. What color grout would you say? On the Tilebar website, the picture looks like black grout.

Not a fan of the black grout especially since your counter is white. I would try to match the grout closely to the tile color.

Ditto. Do a soft white that matches countertop. The other option is a light neutral gray.

I ordered the tile last week! I didn’t get grout or caulk on line so went to Home Depot and picked up this grout color chart. The grout name is below the color. Based on what was suggested above, I think there are a couple choices. Because it is a handmade tile, I’m thinking grout lines should match a little more in case tiles are a bit wonky (we ordered extra but still...).

In my light, the Snow White matches the counter top well and the Platinum looks good with the indented stripes on the tile. As always I appreciate any thoughts.

Can you order a more blue color thru the tile company. All of those are very light.

If you go to a tile showroom there are more colors of grout. The samples I've seen come in little plastic bars. They have blues.

I think the platinum will be fine. Or go for a light tone, neutral gray. (DeLorean is popular. it has a bluish tint to it)

**make sure you apply a grout release or a sealer on those tiles prior to grouting (don't let it drip down the sides.) it will make cleaning those grooves much, much easier after he grouts. otherwise, you may get grout residue caught in those***
