Kitchen design - what should go in this empty space? (plans attached)

We have a hallway leading into our kitchen that was originally slated to be a full mudroom off the hallway, In scaling back the room is now a closet. We have an empty space in the design, directly across from the island.. Our kitchen designer has a built in hutch going there, flush with wall. I see it as a transitional space - kind of kitchen and entryway. Since the kitchen sink will be facing this spot I also want it to not be a cluttered catch all spot (originally I thought of hooks and cubbies). I'd appreciate ideas for how to make this spot work best for our kitchen and to make the closet work as mudroom as much as possible. FYI: the kitchen design has evolved - I just don't have the latest electronically, do don't be alarmed at appliance placement. Also, the columns are gone and the island a bit bigger. A living room goes off to the right, dining to the left past the pantry. Thanks for any ideas!

Coffee and drinks station? If you flip the PR fixtures, you could have a shared plumbing wall with a small sink and drain.

Similar to the above comment, could be a great spot for a wet bar with an under-counter wine fridge or beverage cooler. Keep guests and kids out from underfoot when you're entertaining so they can self-serve drinks without having to go to the main refrigerator.

Re drink station suggestions: I was thinking, as part of the entry this would be a device charging location and perhaps a place to stash mail. But could also serve as a buffet when needed although realistically I was thinking I’d use the island more for that. Although now that I’m looking at this picture maybe I should transform our telephone table into a device hub

Making it a buffet seems far from the rest of your kitchen. Where is your dining table or kitchen table in relation to the layout above? You can easily make it a drink station and have a charging drawer or some system to stash mail. Fairly easy to incorporate all of those into that space.

No family dining or breakfast area in the kitchen? IMO, families need to have dinner together as often as possible, around a table so they face each other. A kitchen bar does not encourage face-to-face conversation.
