You have wood flooring upstairs and downstairs so why carpet on the stairs? If it were my house I’d put wood on the stairs.

You have a heavy shadow toward the top of the stairs so I'd pick a light color but something not so light that it would easily show dirt. As for color, that would depend on what else you have going on within sight of the stairway. It looks like you have a nice house!

I would love to have the wood stairs, it would have cost about the same. But I have an elderly mom and a special needs son. So I had to weigh in what's safe for those two.

The main floor paint is BM Ballet White.

Is the upstairs wood finish different from the downstairs? Just wondering what tones to coordinate the carpet choices to.

Yes, upstairs is White oak Clear finish. Downstairs is porcelain tile.
