Gallery Wall Frame Sizes and Layout?

We had some custom frames made for this wall to showcase my hubby's photography. The ceiling is 12 feet high. I used painter's tape to mock up the size and shape of each frame. I accidentally ordered them smaller than what I actually wanted. Do you think these will work? If not, I can use these elsewhere and order larger frames. If you think the size works, do you think the positioning of the frames looks good?

@Patricia Colwell Consulting, we are still deciding which pictures we'd like to print, but they will all be matted 11x14 landscape photos in espresso frames. We're also trying to decide if we should print them in black and white or ethereal (muted colors) since our decor is monochromatic. My hubby said it would take some work to shrink the photos enough to post them here, but maybe he can find the time to do that tomorrow.

First, any gallery arrangement needs to keep the distance between the frames small 1-2”. Have you considered blowing up a favorite to a super size for this wall? If you decide on black and white, use wide white mats with offset photo placement and black frames. I think I have some pictures of what I mean. Bbl

Flo, I also purchased four of these 25x25 frames with white matting which are about 3 inches larger than the custom frames. They have 8x10 openings. I wasn't sure if the bright white matting was too white because my kitchen can be viewed from the same room and the cabinets are white dove. But do you think these could work if I spaced them 2 inches apart?

That spacing is too great. The goal is to get the 4 to read more like one.

I don't think you should have to bend over to view a photo so you might want to consider moving the grouping up the wall.

Okay, I'll move the tape to show the custom frames 2 inches apart instead and then I'll tape the larger 25x25 sizes 2 inches apart and will post new pictures. I'll have to do that in a few hours because I need to go to an appt right now. Thank you. Bbl

You could also order 2 more of the smaller size and do an arrangement like Beverly's last mock up.

Those could work. The kitchen is far enough away that shouldn’t matter. I would try 1-1/2” apart. This is its own vignette.

@Flo Mangan and @BeverlyFLADeziner, here are the outlines of the 25x25 frames. I moved them up higher and moved them closer to each other at 1.5 - 2 inches apart. The grouping isn't quite centered on the wall from left and right so I'll have to fix that. Other than that, what do you think? The mattings each have an 8x10 opening. Do you think it would look okay to have the openings cut larger to 11x14 openings? Or should I keep the 8x10 openings with the wider matting?

Also wondering if I should just hang them centered between ceiling and floor since they are almost centered now, but look a little off. ?

Hoping to get a thumbs up before we print the photos and hang the frames. Keep this config? Center on wall in all directions? Make the openings 11x14 instead of 8x10?

Bumping. Would like the pros to weigh in again.

We finally completed the gallery wall with custom framed black and white photos. Does the placement look right? Would one extra large print look better?

I know the pros all said to keep the spacing narrow, but I'd have preferred the frames a bit further apart. Or perhaps add two more pieces with that spacing.

It may be the angle from which the photo is taken that makes it appear as though the spacing between is a bit too close together, but as long as the pieces are spaced equally, I think they look fine. They "read" as one piece, which is a good look for this wall. Is it possible to consider adding two more to the collection?

Thank you for the comments. I think it's the angle that makes them look closer together than they are, but they are spaced about two inches apart. I'll take a straight-on shot when I get home and post shortly. There is no room to add two more of this size.

Here they are straight on. They are 1.75" apart.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting, @BeverlyFLADeziner, @FloMangan, and @groveraxle, I would also appreciate your input on the gallery wall. Thank you. Am I tagging the names correctly?

Some of my family members think the mat openings and pictures should be larger. I'm thinking they might be right. What do you all think?
