I would move the oven to the tall cabinet with the microwave.

The wood hood should be white.

I would also have the cabinets go to ceiling.

Is there a landing surface for taking things out of the fridge?

I would move the fridge to the end of the cabinet run and have a counter space next to it, then have the microwave and oven then the pantry.

We have a "built in" cabinet around our refrigerator. Now that we have to replace it, we are finding the dimensions of the surrounding frame do not fit today's standard units. I would recommend the refrigerator at the end of the of the run as well, for that reason.

@ckvtom some of these suggestions make complete sense thank you! we’ve actually already made some of these changes. we’ve moved the single oven with the microwave and moved the glass cabinets near the open shelving. We’re also definitely using a counter depth fridge. And I’ve has the designer add more drawers as well.

our pantries have roll outs we are in definite need of lots of food storage as we have 3 growing boys.

    thanks Kim

Your updated design doesn't include showing the table area. Are you keeping a table in the design? In the previous layout you posted, it was hard for me to tell, looking at the pictures, if the table would block access to some of the cabinets. I remember thinking that I might explore putting a banquette in that space.

Agree with much of what ckvtom says above. Be sure to give yourself some counter space next to the fridge. If something has made a mess or is heavy, you need to be able to set it down fast when removing it from the fridge. Also, please extend the cabinets up to the ceiling. IMHO nothing looks worse than cabinets that stop part way up. The space is wasted, the lines are interrupted so the kitchen will always look more cluttered, and it just collects dust. Good luck!

I wouldn't go for a single bowl sink, go double. One can be used for prep leaving the other side free. I know there is a dishwasher but there are always times you will need to wash delicate glassware, large pots or extra dishes that didn't fit in the dw, one bowl of soapy water other bowl to rinse.

1 of my top peeves is a kitchen sink with a divider. That divider drives me nuts when trying to wash a big item. No thank you.

The advantage of having 1 big large bowl is to be able to wash large items with plenty of room. Bigger is better when it comes to sinks & the space allows, especially for a family or an everyday cook.

One wide bowl sink with no dividers is a must have for me. It I want to soak & separate items, no problem, I can get a stainless steel or plastic mini tub to set into bottom of sink when needed. Just store the sink insert under sink to grab when needed. When I need to soak a large pan or cookie sheet, no problem, can do in a large wide sink. A sink with no divider is adaptable to more uses.

    Hello, Kim,

    Getting closer, here's a few suggestions ...

Cabinets to ceiling (it's worth the extra cost) You will gain a lot more needed storage. Add up each cabinet width & depth to see how much storage you will gain to justify the extra cost. Plus, it will visually make room look taller, get rid of that odd space above cabinets, & no dust accumulation.

When take cabinets to ceiling can get a drawer front over hood to fill space or a filler. check slide stove manual & vent manual to determine correct height placement between. May want to add 3" of space on both sides of wall cabinets around stove by getting a 36" wide hood instead.

Clean flow= trash can to right of sink, rinse in sink, put in dishwasher

3 drawers (top drawer for cooking utensils) on both sides of stove

    cookie sheet near stove

filler on both sides of hood when cabinet doors open towards hood to help prevent doors from hitting hood & getting damaged over time.

    Fridge Wall:

tall fillers on both sides of fridge for doors to open fully without confliction. Especially for pullouts, because doors have to open pass 90 degrees to pullout pullout without damaging doors inside.

A separate microwave & single oven in a tall cabinet. Microwaves & ovens have different life expectancy, so if 1 breaks just that 1 has to be replaced.

Please, get the cabinets to ceiling. A family needs as much extra storage as possible. I have never had a client regret getting cabinets to ceiling. Remodel projects usually replace shorter builder cabinets. New Builds often do not go to ceiling to cut costs. Time to upgrade & take the cabinets UP to Ceiling;)

    Hope that helps.

I still would put the counter between the microwave/oven so that you have a landing space for both.
