I'd probably already have nailed a piece of 4'x8' plywood paneling to the half wall.

If you decide on anything less full than walls and a door, it would be a good idea to ask the potential users how they feel about the solution. The issue may be visibility or feeling "exposed" in that space. If it's also about sounds and odors, a visual barrier won't suffice.
