I like the look of it and being able to hide counter top "stuff". I have a similar cabinet down to the counter in my new kitchen plan, it will house my blender and my coffee maker.

As long as you don't need the countertop space, it works well but remember that hinged doors will need room to open. A roll top appliance garage can work better for that reason.

You can store your countertop appliances in those garages, but you need enough counterspace to use them out in the open. You need plenty of open space for those items which get hot, and they need to cool down completely before you put them back into the garages.

Do you think it all looks too cabine heavy? I could also get rid of the pantry and make the garage area bigger. The pantry is 21 inches currently. I have a walk in pantry, so I could definitely do without it.

I just dont want it to look weird or overcrowded. This is a corner area that you can’t see except if you’re right there in the kitchen, but I do like the idea of hiding things. But even if not, I was thinking to put the microwave in the pantry.

Redesign to use 24”D cabinets there.

You might consider changing the garage to a corner cabinet. That way the only counter space affected is directly in front of the cabinet which is a corner and you still have space on both sides for S&P and cream&sugar and a candy dish, etc. Because of the space on both sides, this would look less crowded.

Oh darn...good point! 12 wont fit the depth of the microwave. And 24” won’t wotk because it throws off the symmetry of the other wall.

Symmetry is way overrated. Balance and Function is much more important.

Make sure you leave enough open counters to put down grocery bags for unloading, unless you have other Counters nearby!

BTW it’s 15 inches deep and it works well. You could certainly go deeper than 12

of course it works. Makes use of the available space and you can close the door on the clutter.

Definitely get rid of the pantry cabinet if you don’t need it.

I would move the fridge out to the end. Nothing worse than a fridge door that can hit the too-close counter. Get rid of the pantry, move the fridge and then just have uppers and more counter space.

I personally don't get the idea of hiding the microwave. You'd always be dealing with the cabinet door in front of the microwave door. I would definitely figure out a place for the microwave though. I know some people like theirs in the pantry. It would be nice to see your whole plan to see if this area looks too heavy in comparison. I get the point that is does not need perfect symmetry but it should still not look like two different kitchens.

I like your idea. You could also incorporate a baking zone if you need one. This reveal has a nice cupboard that hides appliances and the MW. We have the shallow GE MW hidden in an upper. You will need at least 15" depth to do that. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/4649209/kitchen-reveal#n=66

Another idea is to create a vertical drawer wide enough to hold all your small appliances.
