I might put the gallicas in the most sun, pippa. That is really just a gut feeling. I have albas blooming in more shade, and one gallica that is in shade that did not bloom this Spring. I'm sure there are individual differences in different cultivars.

Albas are known for growing well in shady areas. If they get all day filtered sun or just 4 hours full sun, they will grow and bloom well. Gallicas grow okay in some shade but they flower better in 6 hours of full sun. That's the good news. They also sucker like mad on their own roots, in sunny areas too.

Okay sounds good...I think every spot I'm planting in gets at least 6 hours and one spot starts getting shade in the afternoon first. I'm ggiving the gallicas tons of room for the suckering too.
