blue and orange?

last modified: 7 years ago

Hello- I’ve just purchased this sectional. I’m considering this rug behind it as I love the warm tones. I would also like to work in some blue or blue/gray accents also. Opinions?Should I stick to a rug with blues instead? My floors are paler than the coffee table, like a washed oak tone. Walls are off white.

This picture made me start thinking about the blues.

Second question - I'm trying to choose between these two coffee tables and would like your opinions or other recommendations

Personally I love the rug. 1st coffee table.

Your sectional can either be pushed into the gray tones or the blue tones depending on what you place around it.

We have no idea how large the sectional might be so there is no way to determine if the tables you have selected are the appropriate size for the sectional. I like the wood table that is already placed in front of the sectional.

I think a better rug can be selected to complement your sectional.

Thank you- the sectional is 109 x 64.

I also bought this chair if that helps. Looks a little lighter in this pic than it is...it also doesn't have that purple tone you see. It's more gray.

Different styles of rugs for the sectional.

Thanks - that is really helpful!! If I went the blue route, I could put warmth in with wood, natural fibers etc then I think.

Beverly - do you like the existing wood table because of it's color, shape or both?

You've had a pro help, but I'll add that the rug, though pretty, seems 'bad spot' to have that much contrast of warm and cool [sofa].

Saw this unusual rug last night - has art's color?

Sofa with several separate pillows in it, I don't so like a table that adds to the number [I mean the table with 2 in a set].

I think I know what you mean...that it will look too busy with the number of pillows combined with the nesting coffee table?

30" of a sectional and 12" of a coffee table to view and really it's hard to make any judgements. However, there is nothing worse than a coffee table that is dwarfed by a sectional. You want everyone sitting on the sectional to be able to reach to place a drink down.

A few of this look a bit grey - I know what it is - I think your rug should have no browns that are golden-based...

I like the original rug the best, if you can get it the right size.

Good point - I tend toward large ottomans (with tray) and tuck tables. I haven't had a coffee table in so long.

Went to Urban Barn and selected some items. That art you like might be too small for the sofa, so I selected a pair of items. Here are rugs that might work. I'm not crazy about the orange in the one rug, but that's simply personal preference because it will limit your accessories.

Thank you - I also looked at that first rug! The third is the same one above and that is how it looks in real life (more muted) but that's exactly my hang up. I'll be limited to the orange as you say.

What an interesting mood this has. The bit of green might be ok cause of the amount of wood in the space. Has your blues in it.

Given your upholstered choices, I prefer the first rug mentioned so far. But on a monitor it is hard to discern how orange it is. Tablewise, I like how the table in the store echoes the softness of tones in the art.

Yes the picture I took of it looks darker and deeper, it's actually more muted/lighter. Which art do you like?

Deborah, I meant the art in your original post ;-) Also, do you know the name or brand of rug? From the glimpse above, it looks like you could emphasize the steely shades of the rug in your room if you wish. Allow the "orange" to be much less 'present', like the various orange shades in the art.

Oh good I’m glad you think it might work together. The rug is from Urban Barn ‘Dahl’ Umber and Blue. This is a better picture.

That’s what I was hoping to do... tie in more if the blue and cream with throw pillows on the couch, and a bit of umber maybe, like 1-2 with a muted orange accent but not a lot

Went to the Urban Barn site, they have great pics of both colourways for this rug. Like you, I prefer this one. Overall, it seems to me you know what you want and will end up with a great space. Best of luck!

I quit reading about halfway through. Don't know why everyone is trying to steer you to different rugs. I think that rug you chose will look great with the sectional. You can use a good amount of blue and a smattering of orange for accents and it will look smashing.

Found a pic of my color scheme idea.... I think it will work well! And this rug has even more orange than mine. I like it with the white walls and plants. :)

I like the original rug, or would even do something with more orange accents like in the colour scheme idea! I think once the soft furnishings and other accent pieces have been added then a brighter rug would say more.

It's a nice mix of orange and blue isn't it?

I think a brighter orange is better what with ALL grey furniture, and not a umber-muted bit in initial rug. Oh well sorry going on...

I've been following along for a few days. I like the original rug you chose a lot as well. I think a bit of warmth in the colorway is needed.

A mention that with art you posted, there was direction of houzzer[s] to bring blue also into rug, which looks good with grey.
