go for it .... its a lot easier than messing with pots over winter ....

in my MI.. with ground freeze... heave would be an issue ... not sure how that applies to your area ...

to be safe .. plant them ... and then cover them with some mulch or ground leaves .... after they are fully dormant ..... avoiding the exact crown itself ...

the idea is to keep the soil around it from warming too much ,... during warm spells in winter ....

lets be realistic ... fall just started a week ago ... winter doesnt really start until xmas week ... so you have plenty of time ... for the plant to settle in ... the soil to settle.. and to get ready for winter ...

i would bare root and plant in native soil ....

if you have some tiny minis.. i would defer to others on those ...

I’m still transplanting, how long is the cold snap supposed to be?

Garage does not work for me for some reason. I do outside on a side, covered with leaves. Works well if in shady spot. There will be no root growth anymore but not a problem as soil will remain warm for while yet.

Thanks all! I saw Ken’s response yesterday and proceeded to plant... managed to get 11 in the ground, along with some other plants. And I got some dried perennials cleaned-up. It’s supposed to be pretty nice this week, so maybe I can get a few more done during the morning hours (I work afternoons). My seedlings from last year are still in very small pots... I’ll put them in the garage. Linda- I’ve had pretty good luck doing that for several years.

Kathy- I had to laugh out loud when I read your question: how long will the cold snap last??? Well, probably until about March. With a few warmups here and there. It’s actually really beautiful here right now, with just a few early morning temps in the 30s. But the season is definitely changing.
