About the same. Same friends, same family still visit. I still love having guests!

The same which is not often.

What is with all of your overnight guest polls? Never. Nobody is welcome.

Lots of guests pre-kiddos. Now the house is too small.

over night ok, but like fish, visitors start to stink after day 3.

Moved to Napa and everyone visits. I love it.

Built a bigger house with guest rooms when the grandkids started arriving and now they are here a couple of times a year. Plus our own friends come South in the winters to visit. Next house won't have so many rooms because all I do is change sheets it seems. (Cue background noise of dryer whirring!)

City home in California.....fewer overnight guests. We are hosting a big family reunion Christmas this year, so guests in two bedrooms.
Country home in Michigan....more overnight guests, often seven or eight nights.

When the kids left home, we only had occasional overnight guests who came from out of town once or twice a year.

Then each kid came back home for a few months (in between jobs or apartments).

Now they are all settled properly, but our daughter still sleeps here frequently because of the work she does: she's a musician with gigs all over the place plus she teaches piano several days a week from our house. She teaches Sunday early in the morning (I know, crazy LOL) so fi she has a gig Saturday night that ends late, she comes to our house to spend the night to avoid getting up way early on Sunday and driving all the way from downtown to our house.

It's nuts, I never know when she'll pop over to spend the night.

On the upside I only need to change the sheets in her upstairs bedroom about once a month. On the downside, if we have other overnight guests, it's a scramble to change sheets before and after. If they should all be here at the same time, then we need to reassign somebody to a basement bedroom. Luckily there's a full bathroom in the basement too. Unfortunately she teaches piano in the basement so she has to tidy up properly before her students come because the bedroom is really part of the same big basement room with just a movable screen separator.

But I wouldn't have it any other way :)

5 years ago we were still homeschooling (daughter and I both graduated homeschool high school in 2016) and our house was the hub of a wheel that was in the middle of my daughter's friends' houses, so it became the gathering place and we had many overnights with them. It worked out pretty well because my condition for having them come over was they had to walk the dog and honestly I think they all loved that. I also love her two best friends who graduated with her -- they both started calling me Mom and I'm still in close contact with one of them.

I complained about the noise and energy in the house one time and my husband looked at me and said, "This won't be happening much longer and you'll miss this." He was right. Now I'm empty nesting and sometimes I do miss it. But I also love getting my space back and the quietness and privacy. I still wish someone would come and walk the dog though, LOL.

So now the only overnight guests we ever have are our children if oldest son is home from grad school or younger son is staying here when winter roads are bad, and when daughter was moving out all summer on the installment plan -- she'd spend a night or two here each week due to a travel situation with a nearby job -- but she's all moved out now. I love them all but I'm always glad to see them go again. Such a peace descends on the house!

Where are you going with this?

We definitely have more guests and we welcome all. We retired three years ago and built a new home. Our second floor has three bedrooms dedicated to "guest quarters". This has been one of the very pleasant experiences of retirement and we do not regret the investment.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>More, we moved to a beach town so now everyone wants to stay. Even if they’re only 45 minutes away

We built a new retirement home in the Texas Hill Country between Austin and Dripping Springs. We love having family and friends visit so we can share our piece of heaven.

Variable? We used to live next to downtown. Our friends loved to crash so they could be near the fun parts of Seattle and travel cheap. It was loud, parking was hard, and the guest bed was an air mattress, so older relatives tended to stay in hotels instead.

Now we have a house with a proper guest space, but it's not so close to the city center. These days we get good friends and relatives who are visiting mainly to see us. Wilder friends tend to get a hotel downtown and we just meet up with them.

We love having visiting friends and relatives. I have two guest rooms, sometimes both are " booked."
As empty nesters, we look forward to our visitors.

    Less and less.

My husband's family lives somewhat far away and we have always taken turns visiting each other for a weekend at a time. The frequency of visits has not changed over the years, though our living situation has. Five years ago, we were still renting, and our best guest accommodations was a futon in a small spare bedroom. Now we own a 4 bedroom house, with not one, but two guest bedrooms, with actual beds in them. What has changed with this is not how often they visit, but the number of complaints when they do visit. No one complains about their back hurting in the morning anymore!

I wish more often but, alas, it seems it is farther from CO to MI for hubby’s family to travel. So, we do the travel :)

sadly, we still don't have dedicated guest beds. our spare rooms are used as offices (which we really do need). they're too tiny to add real beds for a combo office / guest space. our poor guests are still banished to a fold out couch in the rumpus room. but they do get privacy, the "good" tv and their own bathroom! and a not-so-mini bar, lol.

When my family and friends are willing to travel to see me-I wouldn't think of them staying at any place but with me. Because they can stay will me and cut back on hotel expensives-they do come more often- which is so fantastic. I love to entertain and try out different recipes and they are always willing to sample and offer suggestions-a total win-win.

5 years ago I was living in a NYC condo without a guest room. Out of town visitors stayed in hotels, local friends crashed on the sofa after too much wine. Now I've retired and built a house in the desert southwest with oodles of space including a dedicated guest bedroom and bathroom. In the last two and a half years I've hosted friends approximately every 4 months - and not overnight, oh no, they stay for long weekends or 2 week vacations. But I'm not complaining, it's great to see them and to feel we're still close even though I've moved so far away.

Guest visits, family and a few friends, are about the same each year. Love my guest room, bc, it is not near my bedroom. Therefore, there is privacy for the guests and for me. Hate having to change bedding. My friend, who had a summer home and frequent guests, had a brilliant solution for this chore: Before guests came she told them it was expected after each visit that the guests would strip the bed, wash & dry the bedding and remake the bed, so it was ready for the next visitor. Hopefully this was a shared task - not for women only!

Adult sons (with families) show up whenever they happen to be in town (both my boys live about an hour away in opposite directions). I have a love/hate feeling about the fact that they just "show up". For instance, I went to let my dogs out at about 10:45 pm last night (I had been in bed since 9 pm) and my younger son (with girlfriend and two children) was just pulling into the driveway...no phone call to let me know they were coming, lol. Fortunately, I have a guest room that meets all their needs. My "significant other", who does not live with me, says I make it too convenient for them. True, but at least I get to see my grand kids, and my sons feel like this is still their home too.

When we renovated the ground floor of our house five years ago, we converted the old formal dining room to a dedicated guest room, and added an adjacent bathroom from the rabbit warren of closets and odd walk-in cupboards that were part of the old kitchen. We have many more guests now and people stay for longer. More comfortable for them to have their own room and bathroom, more private for us to have the guests tucked away downstairs.

SF home has vacated daughter’s bedroom as new guest room. The hallway bath can be solely used by houseguests since we have an ensuite master bath. We have been hosting visiting musicians for music festivals which has been great, meeting people from all over the world plus hearing interesting music. Friends and family stay three to four times a year. At our Sierra foothills ranch have renovated a barn annex into a guest suite complete with living room, bedroom, kitchenette, upstairs sitting room. There we have guests nearly every two weeks. We make it simple for us by rotating sheets and asking guests to leave the place in the condition they found it - ie change sheets and remake the bed and squeegee the glass shower walls/door and wipe down the mirrors. Everyone has been happy to cooperate.

I only enjoy having my children and their spouses here, for as long as they want. Sigh, usually it’s just a few days because of their busy lives. As far as other guests - nah. The last time we hosted (my husband’s friends) was the last time I hosted (at least when I’ll be home). They were rude, demanding and very messy. At our age, get a hotel. We’re not starving students in college anymore. I like my privacy and space. I want to enjoy my coffee alone, get ready on my timeline, and maybe then we can meet for lunch. If you don’t want to stay in a hotel, I’m not interested in seeing you. If my husband wants to host his friends, I arrange to be out of town.

I joke that the round “turret” style entry around our front porch was designed for a revolving door. The answer to “What did you do last summer?” ...”Sheets and towels!” We have two guest rooms, each with a private bath and we have had a steady stream of guests.

This is our third year in our new home, which is about three hour drive from all of our old friends and family. Everyone is naturally curious to see where we landed and we have been blessed with lots of visitors. It is a lot of work, but I am thankful that they make the effort to stay connected. Each year we have had fewer guests, so it is feeling less like a B&B now.
Two of our friends have purchased homes in our neighborhood as a result of these visits!

My answer is yes...and always involves a mad dash to get all my office papers, unsorted clothing and other things tossed on the guest bed...to another location!! But it’s worth it! Oh, yes...the number of guests prompted me to add a half bath. Can’t believe I didn’t think of that sooner!

We have far fewer guests since we moved to an area of the country, the Cleveland, Ohio area, that our friends tend to fly over and not stop over. That's fine. We love our friends and can accommodate some guests, but not having to most of the time is just fine.

We relocated to a great place to visit in summer and fall. We are further away from family and friends, so get many more visits.

old Home hardly ever. New home all the time, 2 dedicated guest bedrooms and a bunch of blow up mattresses. Love it

So sweet to know that the grandkids are going to be frequenting more since they are moving in with their dad. I'm planning all over the place! I'm glad as...!?!!

We live in Hawaii and are glad to share our home and yard with friends and family. We are also Warm Shower hosts - a free worldwide hospitality exchange for touring bicyclists - always amazing guests.
