Dining room decor help

I need help getting started decorating my dining room. We’ve just moved, and everything in the house is outdated. I’d Love to eventually have everything cohesive in style, but I am having a hard time seeing past what it looks like now. We’d like to keep the table (and possibly the rug) but outer than that it all has to change. This is our main eating area and we have small kids. The foyer area obviously also needs decor. I’d prefer a neutral palette with warm grays, white, charcoal, slate blues, and maybe sea salt? i prefer classic but not fussy at all. The rug that I have is a little bright, but it does hide stains very well.

These aren’t all dining rooms, but are good representations of my style

I love your rug and those wood floors and molding! I'd replace the chandelier with something like this

Replace the chandy with your favorite from the inspopix you posted. With kids, consider a rug from Ruggable. They are washable and come in many sizes and colors. I have one in the kid zone at our vacation rental cabin and it does the job very well. Once you pick a rug the color way will develop. Are your floors parquet throughout? If you don't care for them, think about staining them black for a dramatic and pretty look, but only if you have a Roomba to keep up with the dust bunnies. They could also be bleached or whitewashed for an update, but they do look to be in good condition as they are. Keep shopping for chairs and some art you love.

    Taller lamp in foyer.

I like that chandelier a lot, but think I want to avoid gold since chandeliers are kind of expensive. the last one from my inspiration photo is probably my favorite. I’m really not a fan of the parquet. It is in the foyer, dining room, hall, and 2 bedrooms. Unfortunately the living room is carpet With a small section around the fireplace. I’m not sure what sconces go with that chandelier in the inspiration photo, and I think i need some sort of cabinet there. It seems like there is a lot of space/empty walls to fill. The foyer lamp is awful there. I think the mirror may be too small too?

You could put a round mirror one either side of the pendant light. Is there a third one on the wall or just the two in the photo? Cabinets may look a bit too bulky imo. In the foyer, it looks like you already have a pendant light? Is a table lamp necessary?

I like your existing chandelier. The chairs around the table, if that stays are too dark and the rug is too bright blue IMO

Thank you for the advice. I really like the suggestions. I have only kept those old chairs because the kids are so messy. I love the blue/gray chair options and the lighter rug. I’m a little nervous that we can’t keep them clean. I already have long white curtains from our old house that I haven’t hung, so I will hang those ASAP. I also have a large round mirror but it is oil rubbed bronze. Maybe I could paint it to hold us over? im still not sold on the current chandelier, but maybe if the sconces and other stuff changes it will look better.

no, we probably don’t need the lamp in the foyer. I never thought of that. Although we do leave it on all of the time.
