I think tips up is correct. Tips down would not be as easy to use. We replaced every door knob in our house with levers (tips up) because I have arthritis in my hands which make grasping and turning a knob painful. Pushing a lever down is much easier.

I think they're upside down too. If you think about grabbing the handle to push down, the curve of the handle should naturally fit in the palm of your hand.

Upon further investigation, here is the model I have. Looks like I won't have to change them after all.

Now I am noticing that half mine are correct and half are wrong in my house! Never realized that before this thread started. In other words- do which ever you like because no one else will notice!

Mine are technically "upside down" but I prefer that look. If they ever become difficult to use (I've heard that the orientation can make a difference) I'll turn them they other way. Dare to be different? :)

You do not need to dismantle the entirety of it. Your package should have included a hex key (Allen wrench) and you would use that to unscrew just the handles. There is a little hole on the outside of the handle that you would insert the key into and just unscrew the handles. That way you would just flip the handles by switching them to the other side (so pull out both handles and put them on the other side of the door). It takes no more than two minutes per door and it will look so much better. Your instructions should have more info on it.

I just had mione installed and noticed some were up and some were down. I prefer the tip up as it's actually easier to open the door, but I noticed that the latch doesn't even begin to move until the handle has moved half way as I press downward. Not sure what to do at this point. Does the orientation make a difference on the movement of the latch?

They are 100% upside down. This is a pet peeve of mine. I would say half of houses I go in they are upside down (tips up). Even “high end” remodels, it drives me nuts that the designer or contractor doesn’t know this. If you look at the instructions for lever handles it even says the correct orientation. The reason it’s designed this way is so you push down on the lever and your hand rolls off it as the door opens. Otherwise your hand hits the end with tip up. If it were my house I could never look at all those handles upside down. But each to their own

Think about the shape of your palm and that will tell you which way they should go.

Definitely not overly concerned about followers and posts

I think down from an ergonomic/hand disability perspective.
