The 4 pictures are all to high. The 3 over the mantle should be a little lower and the one over the couch should be just above head height when your are sitting down. Too many toss cushions also. It makes it look messy. You could warm the room up with a tray, candles, books or something of interest on the coffee table. Otherwise the look is much improved.

Little kiddos make some of that impossible. I’ll look at moving the pictures above the mantel down though!

I am sure your Venice picture is lovely, but it needs to be integrated with the sofa and hung lower on the wall so it doesn’t look like it is floating all by itself.

May I ask what you took the photo with? Reason for asking is because it gives your room a 'painted' look.

Pretty sure the OP was going off the mid-point being equal with the top of the doors when hanging the photos.

Problem is, symmetry is not the best idea when it traps "whitespace" and fools your eyes.

I would recommend, as others have said, going off of the Mantle for spacing or maybe use Phi spacing off of the top of the doors.

Also, lower that panorama to just below vision height.

I like your white frame aesthetic. Looks very clean. Congratulations!

Also, don't put pillows on the fireplace.

Fireplace tools like a rake, poker, and shovel should go there, not pillows. Pillows burn. You should use your fireplace and make it look like it is used, not shown off like a couch.

@ jora, It has a "painted" look because it is lol. Everything is artificial now, nothing is real.

@daniel cluley, have fun using a painted fireplace now. Have fun cleaning that soot. That doesn't look like its a real wood burning fireplace anyway. Just a giant lava lamp in the wall.

I was referring to another Comment . Most of us are here to offer or receive helpful criticism. It’s sad that their are grown men who act like bully’s . So unattractive.

Love your fireplace! We'd like to do something similar with ours. Is your hearth made of wood or is that a stone top?

Did you try changing the panoramic picture for over the mantle and then the 3 'matching' ones over the sofa? All need to be lowered and more integrated with the furniture. Also, don't put a fireplace pier on the hearth unless the fireplace is actually woodburning. As time goes by collect some nice things for the coffee table and other spots- for now a couple of books would help, maybe a pretty tray - you need a bit of sparkle and a shot of color other than the pillows which can be used somewhere else. Perhaps a throw on the sofa so the kids won't wreck it? But whatever you do, get in there and live in the room- right now it looks like a store set and needs your personality added!

The panorama is hung high so that the kids (mine & the 10 cousins) don’t stand on the couch and grab it or break it. I know it’s high but that’s what I have to do for now. I’d love coffee table books and candles and more personal decor but again, for now I have a toddler and a 5 yr old.

I’ve put things under the photos above the fireplace. Right now there are small pumpkins to help even out the distance.

I took the photo of my room on my iPhone. Nothing special there.

The fireplace is gas and the mantel/white area is all solid wood.

I intend to get nicer more bold furniture when my toddler is older. I’d love a custom made emerald couch with two custom patterned chairs in the future.

Newhomeowner, congratulations on your new home and new look. With the white fireplace and windows it is probably much lighter now. It probably looks even lighter in daylight, but you took pictures after the children were in bed? Ignore TM, he has chronic bad days. Thanks for sharing.

Motupeg thank you. It’s so bright when the sun is out. I love it. And yes the children were in bed. It rarely looks this clean! Scatter 10 toys and that’s a typical day. Haha!

Updating all! I just couldn’t take the color anymore and repainted. Getting new furniture and decor. It’s a very light gray. Will update when everything is done!

Put an oriental (or other brightly-coloured) rug between the seating pieces to bring the volume down to “room” feeling.
