I can’t remember what it is called now but it’s like a slab which matches the counter top. But it’s not a backsplash, just exactly the same as counter Top

YES. You need to remove he short backsplash and do the entire backsplash area in one kind of tile. The backsplash can be the same material as the counter (if it is still available) or it can be another material which goes with the counter color.

You like clean and simple and you don't like subway tile - why not just stick with the backsplash you already have?

I would put in a stainless steel sheet behind the cooktop to protect the wall, but otherwise, why not leave it alone?

But if you really want tile(and I understand-I'm a tile lover)-I'd ask for more than a day to decide on such thing. A day is a bit too little to lock yourselves into this position. If you're already doing that..why to hurry? I'd take my time. I'd explain to GC why I need it. Wouldn't rush into it. For now your wall is nicely protected by the short splash that's there (and even if it wasn't-no biggie..)

I understand why everybody wants to be done-but in order for you to be happy you indeed need to have one of these, not two backsplashes, and to know you chose well and not under stress..duress))..whatever you call it.

Yes, you already have a backsplash. If you are looking to do tile, then you should remove the counter backsplash.

I will also ask... why was it painted if tile is wanted to be put up? Tile can't be put on paint.

Laura - can you reference that please, because I'm pretty sure that's not accurate. All you have to do is lightly sand the surface for the mortar to adhere.

Sure that is done, but it just seems like a waste to me to paint in the first place....

Laura the house was Bought new construction so it came painted. We wanted gray walls so we weren’t going to leave the backsplash area shadow white which was the standard color the Walls came in.

Thanks for your comments. We are going to take our time, take Out the 4” backsplash and then tile all the way.

question how easy is it to take out the 4“ backsplash where it meets the cabinets.

Very simple. That strip of material is held in place with some adhesive and some caulk. Your guys should be able to remove it in no time.
