Easier / faster wild orange daylily removal?

I am digging out common wild orange daylilies and replacing them with shrubs and perennials that will not look as scruffy as the season progresses. I was fond of them because they originally came from my grandmother's garden. But I saved some in a small separate bed and that will be enough.

I realized while doing that, that it would likely take persistence to really eradicate the daylilies. I did a similar thing in a bed many years ago. I remember that I had to keep at it for a couple of years in succession to really eliminate them.

Apart from persistence, has anyone come up with a good /faster solution? Thanks.
