Of course, that begs the question, why don't I have more of it? I used to grow it from seed every year, out by the street where it was hot, and dry, and sunny. Sometimes I would see it coming up in the cracks of the street.

I did have it on my seed list the last few years but it always seems to be on the chopping block when I have to cut down due to cost.

The planting above is gorgeous and I should keep a copy of it to refer to when I make my seed list in the fall lol. Maybe I'll leave it on the list this year

I planted some several years ago and to my surprise it keeps comimg back!

I used to grow a pot with hot pink and orange on my front porch every summer and I really enjoyed seeing it open in the morning light and close at night. I should start growing it again. This photo was taken a few years back when I was a brand new gardener, thus the poor tormented Persian Shield.

I am with Claudia in that I love those hot orange portulaca. but I have not grown them for a number of years because I don’t start much from seed (I am in transition between the midwest and New England in May) and I haven’t seen them recently in nurseries.

I thought of this thread when I came across this out of place singleton red portulaca:

What is funny is I havent planted any portulacs for the previous two seasons AND this small bed you see was created this spring, where previously it was grass lawn.

There are some white mixed in toward the back also. To think..I almost pulled these out a few years ago thinking they were a weed, I'm glad I left them!

rouge you must have disturbed some dormant seed when you made the bed. I'm not sure I would call that little guy "out of place". That red really pops and looks great with the purple and yellow!

gardenho, how very lovely! Almost a literal primrose path - I guess it's a portulaca path lol! They literally invite you to keep walking down the pathway!

Thanks Dee! It was such a pleasant surprise. Makes me want to get more for my other pathways. Just not sure if they would do well though as they aren’t as sunny…
