If you google "stain engineered hardwood lighter" you will find a bunch of advice and youtube video clips.

To do this, you need a full sand and refinish. To get that done, your floor MUST HAVE 3mm or more of a top layer (the pretty hardwood on top). You can check that out by finding a cross section of your floor. The easiest way to do that is to find a floor vent in the floor. The top layer can be measured. If it is 3mm or more, you are welcome to do a full sand/refinish.

You need to have a wood flooring finisher (NOT an installer) come look at the floors to tell if you if there is enough of wear layer. Not all installers can refinish floors and they may just try to sell you a new floor.

I will bet the flooring is from China and the reason iy is espresso is because there are probably more than one type of wood used so once the stin is gone you might not love the mix of woods I would leave it alone and get some nice area rugs
