OMG it is so embarrassing to show my stairs next to the Houzz photo - but here goes. I want to do the banister shown in the second picture. If i went with wood (rather than black pictured) do i have to match the banister wood with the staircase wood (red oak)? Or can i use a different wood that i like better ? Or should i just go with black paint or ebony stained maple? I know you are not supposed to mix woods. (i have a natural stained fir door). Any opinions greatly appreciated.
