Love me some fried calamari - it's my go-to treat when out to dinner.

I also like fried calamari - but that's been years ago - non that's remotely good around here, sadly. Your octopus looks fantastic, dcarch, and I love the Squid Pro Quo cartoon!

Ooh, mom708, I hear you. But I will still eat small squid. Octopuses are very smart. You saw that PBS program with the octopus in a tank in someone’s living room.

dcarch, I’ve been having quid pro quo pop into my head much too often. I now call it “squid pro crow.” Nice looking dish. What are the tentacle sections resting on? Still squid, body section, or vegetable? What seasoning?

One of my favorite dishes is peppercorn calamari. Ever make it? Have a recipe?

LOL, Dcarch, that's very clever, and I've been smiling since I saw that.

I remember when Amanda was small i'd ordered calimari at a restaurant and she liked it a lot, in spite of the fact that I told her it was squid tentacles. Next time we went out she couldn't remember "calimari", so she asked the waitress for some of that squid, you know, the rings made from the testicles. I tried to keep from laughing as I reminded her "tentacles, baby, tentacles".

Petalique, peppercorn fried squid is my family’s fav dish as well. Almost never fail to order that when we are out dining in Chinese restaurants. I am not sure the homemade version is any good as it requires a really powerful stove like the one in the restaurant. My favorite calamari dish is Pistachio Encrusted Sauteed Calamari; one I always had to share with DH.

One of my science newsletters recently profiled an octopus I had never heard of before. It's unusual in several ways - the males can be as small as a quarter while the females can reach over 6' - but their "capes" are thought to be multi-purpose. Not only do they make it look bigger to ward off enemies, the octopuses use it to capture the venomous Portuguese man o'war jellyfish and eat them!
