I love those blue doors! I have thought about painting them but not sure it’s worth it since we are planning to get new wood doors with bigger windows at some point. Wonder if it’s worth it temporarily. (the orange tone is driving me crazy..). Would you suggest a painter or DIY?

And although I do like the hex tile, it might be too dark so thinking the lighter brown might be a good choice!

And what would you suggest for trim colors (trim around roof, gutters, and trim around garage and front doors)? Any suggestions?

you could DIY it. sand the doors first to get a smooth surface. the spray on a shellac or other wood sealer. fine sand w/320 to knock down any nubs. now you can paint. lots of how-to's online. you can spray, roll or brush. use a paint meant for exterior

as for the trim, what if you did a brown/black tone? maybe Black Fox or Urban Bronze? something in that color family.

you could do this and the Riverway on the door. both would look nice w/the decorative tile

if you want a lighter door, try one of these others

I have the same type of stucco house. I just painted mine, but the doors are a wood look. I like the darker tone for contrast. the trim was all done in BM Wrought Iron. (but I just had my roof done in a charcoal concrete tile) I haven't been able to get any decent pics because the son is always behind the house. always. So the colors look a little skewed. the white is Swiss Coffee

This was over the summer so the trees have since been pruned, but gives you an idea of the roof

I have Saltillo and Talavera tile on the porch

now the area is white w/black, and the door is painted a medium gray. I have a koi pond in this courtyard so I have a vibrant cobalt wall around it

down the street we have a rental house. we did that one w/swiss coffee stucco and black trim, painted the door red, but we kept the white garage doors. we also did a xeriscape yard (this was a few years ago so it's since grown in quite a bit) .

this is the original concrete tile roof to the home (which looks similar to your color) so this will give you an idea on coloring. (you'll have to imagine the white garage doors. but there is black trim around them)

the cobbles are a multi gray, and the front porch was tiled w/Black Ostrich slate tiles.

I’m debating whether we should have the garage door painted.... I got a quote from our painters who will do all the trim. It’s only $300. I think worth it if it will make a difference. I was thinking either a dark bronze to match the trim and windows or a lighter brown (maybe similar to the floor tile I like) so it’s not super dark. ?? I have no idea. I see a lot of brown garage doors with beige stucco. But if it’s dark will that draw attention to it? Vs similar color as the house?

House faces east so gets some direct sun early but not too bad.

I think something like Urbane Bronze would be a nice contrast. why don't you get a sample and try it out around the doors? doesn't take long to do. let it dry and see what you think.

I wouldn't do a plain brown. something with a bit more personality to it. grab a few color samples that you like and try it

The black goes with anything. The darker "slate" grays would work, too.

Would not want to add any resembling orange or pink or yellow.

As to whether painting the front doors is worth it or not? The new color, especially a blue(!) will make such a favorable difference you will be surprised. Yiy might mug think you need to replace them after all. You can definitely DIY, so cost of paint (and your time).

I love how mine turned out. It’s just paint. You can still replace later. Or try a different color.

Donna, I'd try the urbane for the trim and see how you like it.

If you think you might like the garage doors painted, you could do that after the trim. Again,, it's only paint. if you don't like it, you can paint it back to white or the same color as the stucco.

Weathy, love your door! Looks great. How long did it take you? I am definitely a DIYer but.. I had a bad experience finish cabinets with stain for our laundry room. It was awful. I will never finish anything with stain! Paint should be easier.

Anyone think I could do a lighter blue/grey/green? Like this perhaps...? Or do I need to go darker or brighter?

donna, you read my instructions on my earlier comment on how to prep for paint, yes? sanding and cleaning off all of the debris is imperative in order to get a nice finish. priming or sealing the wood is the 2nd most important. (and always fine sand and blow off any debris after priming)

here's your color. I mean, it's ok,,,I think if you did this color, I'd make sure and plant lots of succulents in this agave color in those flower beds. you could also get a load of those Mexican black pebbles or the black mulch.

I am going to disagree with the others. I like the dark gray tile and I don't think you have to stick to browns and tans. My mom always told us to let mother nature guide our color decisions.

The lighter gray has some pink in it that throws it off, but the dark gray is beautiful. The browns are just muddy.

I would probably go for white trim with the color of your roof and the stucco.

Someday, when you need a new roof you can go gray.

Ok, let’s try again.. Jennifer, your house looks great with white trim! I think I’ll go darker only because of our dark bronze windows. But you definitely have me thinking about the grey tile. Someone suggested bluestone so I’m going to check that out. I do think it will change things if I paint the doors so am really considering it! I just wish there was a way I could lighten the whole thing up. Hmmm gotta think. Maybe just more light and keep it on all day? We have LEDs.

I wish I could see it all with the trim colors and tiles and door paint. So hard to choose colors! Thank you again!!

and then with your porch tile, you could choose some of the 4" tiles for the riser on the stair, and you could do insets along the corner of your tile (you saw on mine how I did the 4" blue tiles? like that)

i still like the Saltillo tile best for your porch/yard. and if you do the darker door color it will really stand out

Oooh I like that last photoshop! I love those pots you added. I guess I’ll need to see if teal pots are too much with the blue doors. But you can’t really see the doors easily from the street due to shadows so I still think the pots will be nice. But I do want a brown/copper pot for the hose.

And yes, next I’ve got to pick a floor tile and a decorative tile. But figured first I’d paint bc that orange is just throwing me off.

So many choices of the decorative tile!! It’s hard without seeing samples too. But so many would look nice, I think.

tons of choices. decide on your porch/door color, then use that as a base and pick some coordinating colors.

I still like the saltillo hex tile best! (for the large tile) that saltillo looks beautiful with aquas, coppers, turquoise, blacks, off whites, It's the perfect choice!

but try looking around for something similar. herringbone clay pavers. I'm sure we have something similar out here

I think they have a porcelain herringbone paver that looks like clay. try searching that one too. also comes in grays/charcoals

has to be an exterior paint or something w/UV protection. otherwise will fade quickly.

semi gloss is best and will last longer. Satin would be next, but be prepared to repaint in a few years.

BM Quarry Rock (Used the BM visualizer - sometimes shows the colors lighter than they actually get on the surface, but the hue seems to be right)

I always have samples of the mid and light base paints without any colorants added so that I can do 1/2 strength or 3/4 strength to get the exact shade I want. I do my own math to get the amounts of colorant right. Have found that the people at the stores don't get it right.

So here’s a few pics this morning. My doors don’t get much direct sun. As you can tell. But I put the sample boards in the sun just to see. And I think I’ve narrowed it down to 3. And now I’m thinking either the middle one or darker one. I really like the darker one but might be too dark given all the shadows.

Well, painting our doors is taking much more time than anticipated! Partly bc we decided to take them off to lay flat and spray for a smoother finish. Plus my husband decided to work on building our shed yesterday so i had to wait for help on a few occasions. But we need a shed so that’s ok! Prep took forever bc the doors are not in great shape. And those darn windows! But I got both doors prepped and we sprayed 1 coat of primer on 1 door. But then couldn’t move it right away and then had to hang them before dark! So we will finish this weekend! I’ll post pics when done. Thank you!

The doors look great and I can appreciate the amount of effort you put into the project. I see the pots planted with bougainvillea hanging over. Just a tip, it is hell to get old roots out of ceramic pots when the time comes. You should consider pots with straight edges to make that easier.
