window seat depth

I’m wanting to build a custom window seat to put in this dormer window upstairs. It’s 88 inches wide. I want it to have 2 trunk lids that can be open to store things in. Like a hope chest kind of. I will put a cushion and pillows on it so I can also use it as a seating area. My question is how deep should I make it? I want it to be comfy. Even lay down if you want to. My contractor recommended 22 inches. Is that enough? Thoughts?
