Thanks, Karen S. That is what I think too. Looks like Obovata splash. No problem though since Obovata was also on my wishlist and this is a very nice plant for the money. I will just have to keep trying for a mathilde.

Thank you for additional confirmation, Denise. I did send the seller a message that I don't think what I received is mathilde. I took a gamble. It wasn't very expensive so I won't fret about it. I shall continue my search for mathilde! Waltzing Matilda waltzing Mathilda. That song is now stuck in my head. :-)

Hahaha! I thought that was a bulb! Even though I know Hoya don’t grow from bulbs.....my aunt has a type of Hoya that was my grandmother’s which has crawled all over the table & window area were the pot is. Each vine is over 4+ feet. I has the most remarkable pink flower which reminds me of the structure of a geranium flower. My grandmother had it for years and now so has my aunt. Wish I had a picture......

I decided to look up the plant my aunt has. It is a Carnosa Compacta Hindu Rope with the pink flowers. Probably 40 years old.

Sad news. My obovata bit the proverbial dust. All the leaves fell off. I can only guess that it got too cold in shipping. Don't know. And I'm not sure if a stem with no leaves can be saved. I'm thinking no.

Fortunately, I found a new local source for some hoyas. I was able to buy a wayetii there and they had a very nice obovata for only $20. So that will be my consolation.

If you didn't toss that bare stem, you could try placing the bottom in an inch or 2 of water & see if it does anything like grow roots & maybe even throw a leaf. Can't hurt to try, unless you tossed it already.

Depending on it size, $20 isn't cheap for a Hoya, how big is it?

I think the $20 is a proper price for the size of the obovata. It's easily 3 times the size of the one I got through mail-order. And it's from a local independent garden center source.
