I just recently bought a Ring of Fire philodendron! I’m looking for more info on it since there’s isn’t much about online! Does anyone have one? Is it a slow grower? Does it need lots of humidity? So far I have by my humidifier and it gets bright indirect light!

I looked it up on the internet and came up with this:

"It is believed to be a hybrid which was made by a gentleman named Keith Henderson. He used Philodendron tortum ( kind of rare and expensive nowadays) as the pollen parent and Philodendron wendlandii (ditto the expense) as the ovule parent. It was originally called Henderson's Pride."

Interestingly I've had Philodendron "Henderson's Pride" for years. Got it off someone who got theirs direct from the original breeder. But in all the years I've had mine there's never been any variegated leaves. At some stage a plant must have developed a variegated sport which some one has tissue cultured and mass produced.

If my plant and your variegated one are similar then yours will be very slow growing. A few years back mine flowered. No seed but that's not unusual for a hybrid. Mine copes with dry air reasonably well but needs at least light shade.

Tropic, I have a plant called Jungle boogie as well which looks just like the Ring of Fire except it’s all green, no variegation!

Mine too all green no variegation, I called it Philodendron Xanadu, i’m not sure if it is the right name

I know for sure that Xanadu is a totally different philodendron than Ring of Fire or Jungle Boogie (the non-variegated similar looking plant).

So much conflicting information out there. It would be nice to know the real story. Because Ring of Fire looks like Jungle Boogie aka Tiger Tooth. And some information out there says that Henderson's Pride is Jungle Boogie. But Jungle Boogie has no variegation and Ring of Fire is highly variegated.

Hi all, I am Keith Henderson's daughter...spent my childhood potting seeds. Henderson's Pride had no variegation. There are however a couple of colour variants. I have one that has a full green leaf & stem & another that has green leaves but with red/purple stems that fade with age. The new leaves sprout as a red/purple colour too before changing to green. These plants are direct from my father's collection. He produced a number of hybrids over the years however I was just a primary school kid at the time so don't know too much detail. My mother then got MS so plants got put away to instead look after her which is a shame both for Mum(obviously) but also for Dad, he was quite popular in the USA with his hybrids. As for Jungle Boogie & Ring of Fire, I'm not sure where those names came from
