Any idea what the top is? Slate?

arghhh! I don't know what material your top is so don't know how to help you. I did want to commiserate. I did the same thing with a pumpkin and gourd display one Thanksgiving but on the drop down mahogany panel of a vintage writing desk.

oh! I forgot to say, yes, Slate. Sorry morz. :( You probably had to refinish it.

Um, well No, but refinishing is the plan. Right now when the desk part is down it has my grandmothers childhood bible placed over the spot. ;0)

I'm not sure how it would work with the sealer if there was one, but I got a stain off my slate entry with hydrogen peroxide and a nylon scrubbie. It seemed to have been waxed at some point and I did have to apply a little wax, buff to make it look like the rest of the floor. Whatever you do, you may have to approach the entire buffet top and not just the marks.
