The closest DE color is DEC774 SHADY.

Why not just go with the SW to be safe? I learned the hard way the finish of the paint impacts color greatly. I was going NUTS trying to get the right color of Agreeable Grey, turned out I had to buy the MATTE finish (not the little sample size that only comes in eggshell) the finish changed the color so much it was bizarre.

My painter and I prefer Dunn Edwards paint. However the sample he put on wall from SW for Agreeable Gray doesn't look the same as the swatch! I am frustrated.

Lori, Shady is a cool color it says and Agreeable Gray is warm.... will that make a big difference? I am looking for a nice greige

@Pam, Don't listen to "it" whoever they are.

Designating colors "warm" or "cool" is a slippery slope and there isn't a single paint manufacturer that knows how to do it the right way.

Technically, Shady and Agreeable would both be perceived as warm compared to several thousand other near neutral colors from the same hue family neighborhood they both belong to.

LOL "it" is the paint company. They both mark cool or warm. I am putting in new crystal cabinets in white (which the company told me the closest white to it is BM Frostine) and the island is dark gray. The counter tops will either be Cambria Tourquay or Pental Misterio. Backsplash white subway tiles in shine and matte. I am putting in wood floors (medium shade with a slight gray and brown coloring), painting the trim and doors in house DE white. I don't want GRAY and I don't want tan. I currently have DE Riverbed on walls. The DE Fine Grain isn't as complimenting to the floor as the Agreeable Gray. I have made a list of paints to look at today, until you suggested SHADY. It does look close. (colors I have listed.... Foggy Day, Muslin, Whisper Gray, Miners Dust, Fine Grain, Crisp Muslin and now SHADY)

If SW is perfect then use it. Why is brand D & E a must?

To put hue in perspective for you, I plotted both colors on The Color Strategist Color Wheel with black stars.

Agreeable Gray is at 2 Y and Shady is at 4 Y.

So while the numeric difference in hue seems big, the perceptible difference is not.

I haven't physically pulled either chip to take a look but this is the picture the color notations paint.

I am very happy with the Shady. I am not home but here are a few pics I found in my phone prior to getting the new stuff in.

I am now in a dilemna as I am having our vacation home painted and they only use Sherwin Williams. Not sure whether to go white on white or just do the Agreeable Gray (which I think may be a little darker than the shady. THOUGHTS?

Depends on the light. It changes but it is a very neutral color. Beautiful
