Yes that looks more rustic!! I think I’m looking for the transitional country modern comfort feel!! The shiny backsplash is will look completely ridiculous in my kitchen. I love subway tile and a ivory color to match the counter but that’s gonna be so boring. Actually like some of the urban looking bricks on tile bar

I see Antique White Elongated Hexagon ceramic or Crema Arched Herringbone marble tile. The natural stone look would give the space rustic vibe, something like tumbled Sisal Shellstone in beige -- it also has a very nice, subtle movement.

It actually won't be as boring as you fear. We forget that the backsplash is mostly hidden by real life's kitchen accoutrements and serves mainly a functional purpose. That functional purpose reminds me: think of cleaning when choosing your tile. Some textured ones are glorious works of art but a pain to wipe clean. And don't feel rushed to pick something. Backsplashes are relatively new in kitchen design and oftentimes glossy paint protects the wall just fine. Speaking of glossy, look at the Saint Paul Craftsman pic: glossy tiles.

Which walls will you be tiling? Don't feel overwhelmed by the choice out there. Your budget and taste will winnow down the options. Get a diverse set of samples and start evaluating how they look in your space, in your light, set against the wall between your counter and cabinets.

I dont think I will tile the back wall with the computer (the firefly wall)! I will just patch the drywall from the old 4 inch backsplash and paint the accessible beige that I love!!

It is okay to mix marble looking backsplash with quartz? I have heard different opinions. Also I was told a bluish backsplash will make the wood look even more orange and I should stick with neutral. Agree?

I also prefer less grout if possible. Maybe larger subway tiles?

I don't see marble working with the other finishes in your kitchen. You can use a soft blue or green if they are subtle warm tones. You can also use any subway tiles set in a more interesting pattern. Your back splash area isn't huge, so you can also do something with some soft pattern. I think something with some sheen would look great and give you another texture. This subway has some sheen and slight color variation.

You could also use some sort of shaped tile. You have lots or options. Go to a good tile shop and look at all the options to find something you really love.

I used two different kinds of back splash on a recent remodel. I much prefer the subtle wavy white ones (less busy & bigger tile size) These bigger ones surround most of the wall with the stove. The checkered area is my least favorite. I think these these cabinets are close to your color? Also, the gray/blue countertop might provide you a visual for choices you're making. Good luck!

Not sure I would go with that dark of a grout though. Ideas? Better picture of the real thing,. It has so much warmth running through it

For where you are leaning, I like your Crackled Biscuit choice. If you want to highlight the tile, then use a different color grout. If you'd like the tile to have a feeling of being a single, streamlined component in itself, I'd match a grout color to the Crackled Biscuit. Your grout won't likely be shiny, so your tile pieces will be highlighted to some extent even with the same color grout.

I think the crackled biscuit looks perfect! Be sure the installer uses a sealer on the tiles before grouting so the grout doesn't go into the crackled parts of the tiles themselves. I would use a taupe grout that matches the unglazed end of the tiles and speckles - lighter than your sample photo but darker than the top of the tile.

I am planning on putting backsplash from counter to cabinets. Instead of patching the drywall and repainting the computer wall.... Do you think it would look OK to have 3 -6 inch tiles there. I would not go all the way up the wall or to the cabinets. Thoughts? How wide for the grout line?

No. For the computer wall, either tile all the way up to the bottom of the cabinets and skip the art opening, or tile the whole area, or skip the tile and have the drywall repaired. If it was my house, I would skip the tile completely in that area. It's not needed for function.

I think it is the exact color of the swirls in the quartz!!!

I think the one in the middle would be best next to your wood trim and cabinets.

@calidesign yes the one in the middle is the Roca crackled biscuit. Special order but I do love.

I think the crema one looks okay in a close up with your countertop, but is too gray from a distance and with your cabinets. Take the crackle one to a tile shop and try to find something else with that color.

My vote would be lighter, but I'm not a pro! Love the colors in that rug, but maybe wait until after the tiles are done, all lighting is fixed, your art is up...

I would use a slightly lighter grout, matching your countertop color, which will help blend the two.

Do you think it would be okay to put about a 6" backsplash of the Crackled Biscuit tile on the computer wall. Its going to be quicker and cheaper than the dry wall repair , texture and paint needed for this area. I didnt order enough backsplash to go all the way up to the cabinets. Thoughts? Other ideas?

Is there a lot to repair? I’m not a pro, but I don’t live the idea of 6” of tile. And you’ve come this far... if repair and paint.

I wouldn't do that. Either order more tile to do the whole area, or pay for the drywall repair. The small back splash wouldn't look right in that area.

@Stacey so no tile?!!! The drywall there is not really bad. I just have tile boxes I cannot return because they were special order ...but inexpensive "relatively speaking" and I want to use them somewhere

I wouldn't tile in the desk area, but what about above and around the window? You made a great decision on the tile.

I personally like the paint around the windows and I would not care for tile all the way around ... think it would be too busy and I have a beautiful backyard to look at and would prefer that to be the focal point. This backsplash certainly makes a statement in my mind

Thank you for all the nice comments I absolutely love it. One of the houzzers I follow mentioned that I should paint the trim around my sink window white I have wood trim around my sliding glass door sink window and huge picture window any thoughts??

I would keep the stain on the window trim rather than painting it since it matches all your other trim. Sometimes people see a photo from one angle and aren't able to consider all the other elements in the room or the rest of your house. Enjoy your new kitchen!
