Backsplash opinions!

I picked this backsplash to go with this snowfall granite for the kitchen and need to know if it goes well or if it flashes. Also, if anyone has any recommendations please send them to me!!!!

well, I already know what most are going to say.

Does it match w/the coloring? Yes.

Honestly though, it's prob a little busier than you need for your countertop. It would have looked better w/a plain creamy color countertop.

Also, that style of tile is better suited for a fireplace or something else. for a backsplash, it tends to be little passe' ?

It's a nice looking tile, and if you like it, that's all that matters.

    I don't think it clashes w/the countertop.

I'd also get some Almond colored outlets/switchplates. the white one is just too bright and stands out too much.

recommendations for what? to start over? there is nothing you can do w/this tile to make it less busy looking. It isn't horrible. so, live w/it for a bit to see if you like it. if not, redo it!

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>Thank you for your response, I was originally going to get something lighter and more simple, but it looked too boring so I wanted something a little more different. I do like it and as long as it doesn't clash, then I am happy with my selection. Thanks for the advice on the outlet colors, didn't think about that!

Way too busy. You need simple tile

Thank you mark_rachel! Your kitchen looks lovely, but we already had that same look and just found it to be too simple and was looking for something with a little bit more character for the backsplash.

Claudia, one other thing. your under cabinet lights look a little on the yellow side. (or maybe it's just the photos?)

if you want truer colors, try switching the bulbs for a 4000K. it will be a white, neutral light instead of a yellowish hue.

here's snowfall w/a very light white tumbled limestone splash. but see the white under cabinet lighting?

and for sure do those outlets!

I almost thought about something more like the pictures below. Let me know what you guys think?

Beth H. Yes, I thought the same thing with the lighting, but wasn't sure and thought I was just seeing things. Thanks for the pictures of the outlet switches.

this one is similar to your kitchen. I think the plain white is too boring!

But I think we could have found a nice middle ground. if you do decide to change your mind, come back here and I can give you some options.

they used a light travertine here

    and wow...way too busy

    Beth H. I agree!!!

You got the colors right, it’s just too busy for the stone. Pick one color out of the stone and do a simple backsplash in one color.

Claudia, you chose a busy counter material. Consider a calm tile, perhaps in a great shape. The arabesque and paseo shapes are fine. If you want a more intricate design you can choose something like the Fireclay Tile below in the mini star and cross in Calcite. It’s $35/sf.

Claudia, those would have been a better choice. I would have liked it better in this marble though

this picks up the cooler tones in your stone and would look beautiful w/your reddish cabs

this one is made w/marble and MOP.

    or this style from Pratt/Larson

these look better than those that you pick up at the big box stores.

I like the star and cross one that eam posted too.

I know you didn't want boring

Encore has a ton of glaze colors and shapes. a larger pattern like this chevron in one of those lighter colors in your granite, would also be an option

It doesn't clash. I think it complements the granite tones very well.

You say you wanted a more dramatic backsplash and so just because it's too eye catching for me or anyone else, who cares? But if you don't like the multi-color or the horizontal look now that's it up, yes, change it.

Thank you all for helping me on this decision, you have all been very helpful.

Do you like it?! You don’t need any of us to chime in. I think it looks good, would I choose it, no but I like what I like. If you love it and it makes you happy, please enjoy it!

Lidia, it has definitely grown on me the more I see it and the I do think that changing the under lighting will make a big difference which was very helpful and it would definitely be less expensive to change as suppose to getting a new backsplash. I do appreciate everyone's advice and opinions though for it really did help me.

It clashes in the sense that it is totally fighting with your countertops. You have already picked a busy material, your countertop. The backsplash does not need to also have “character“.

Are you asking because you are considering ripping it out?

frostyfootball, I was considering it but I've changed my mind.

If you have a busy countertop, which you do, you can’t also have a busy backsplash. You need a solid color. The two items are competing and that makes them look “off”.

The colors are good, but the patterns are a bit too much. If you are happy with it then no need to rip it out. If you needed to sell the house then you might have to think about putting in something more neutral, depending on your local Real estate market and the typical buyer in your area.
