You may want consider this profile. It is has a clean look but modern as well.

@Hanson Carlen -- thank you for the suggestion. I have seen that profile and I like it. I find that the line draws my eye to it more than the gentle slope of the other. I would likely just stick to a flat base in that case.

You can use flat-stock 1x6 or 1x8 boards at the base with a separate little base cap on top for the detail at the top, instead of a 1 piece (the shoe molding is not always needed)

I use a 1 x 6 or 1 x 8 and add NOTHING top or bottom. Scribe to the flooring and done. Fabulously clean and uncluttered. Easy to dust, no goo collecting is a bonus. The base doesn't need a thing, with what you have already selected : )

@jerry knapp, we ended up doing flat 5.5" high. I too was bored seeing flat everywhere but I do like it now that I live with it. Super easy to clean , simple and straight forward, I understand why people like it.

“Baseboard“ sold in profiles is usually only 1/2” thick (or just a hair over). When using a tall-ish base the 1/2” thickness is too skimpy in proportion and looks flat IMHO / see pic. Using 1x for base helps (1x6 or 1x8 = 3/4” thick) gives a bit of extra relief for a detail. If you don’t like the 3/4” shelf it creates there are base cap moldings for the top.

3/4” thick base also covers more of any gap or irregularity of the finish floor material, helping to eliminate the need for a shoe molding or worse, a quarter round at the bottom.
