Have you looked into synthetic decking like Trex?

Hi Margo! I would recommend that you look into exotic hardwood decking. Unlike synthetic decking, exotic hardwoods last 50+ years! Not only are they slip resistant, but are also strikingly beautiful. Take a look at these examples and check out our page for further inspiration.

so, are you thinking of a finish for a plywood deck, for instance? or some other construction?

The most common waterproof decking is a built up decking system such as :Dex o tex" which is a product brand. This is a textured material with an integral color that needs to be redone every few years.

If you want the look of wood or trex you would need to do a waterproof decking system with the decking floating above so that the water that drips through the cracks runs down and out via a gutter and downspout.

You can also install tile over mortar over a waterproof surface....similar to a shower pan system......
