15K is pretty low for a large high quality iron door. I would have to inspect that quality pretty closely before I’d be convinced into putting that on any of my projects. I’m used to double that cost for genuine American made custom. And double that time frame. They are offering you a standard lead production time based on combining pre made components. Not the standard extended lead time, that I would expect from an import. Or true custom. The big problem with imports is it’s not wrought iron. It’s cast steel, and the poor steel quality, the poor welds, etc, leads to almost immediate rusting.

If you choose to move forward with the import, after close personal inspection by someone who has the skill to determine actual quality vs internet pic quality, I would make sure to pay via credit card. You may need to brush up on your CC dispute process as well. Just in case. Things may turn out perfectly lovely. But that price would suggest that it also may be the case of Online vs Reality.

@User so I’ve been researching iron door companies here in the US and apparently all iron doors are made out of steel. The scrolling is what is made out of iron. Hmmmmm Very interesting.

I think it is very common to get these doors from Mexico as that is one of the origins of these doors. According to a good friend of mine who grew up there they are commonly used on houses there.

I would choose one from Mexico over China for many reasons including the lead time and also more of an authentic feel from Mexico vs. the copy cat form from China that also now includes extra tariffs which means it is really cheap to start with.

If in Texas, check out Venom Iron Doors. They are in Ft Worth and Granbury, TX. That is who we ordered one of our iron doors from. I found them to be reasonable in price. It's worth a shot!

Also, lead time was non-existent for the door style & size we needed. I basically give them 24 hours notice & then can pick it up (or, they will deliver & install but I already had this covered & opted to save the money).

@Crystalgirl9369 I went with 12 gauge BUT mine is a modern design, so very different from the style you are looking at (they offer both styles). &, you're welcome!

@junk*sal I emailed them so fingers crossed. I’m in Florida . Abbey iron doors seem a little sketchy and like I said doors are from China . Not that that shld matter when considering probably 90% of the things we have are. Ha. Who shld I reach out to to do the install?

@Crystalgirl9369 Hopefully they will have some suggestions regarding the install. I live roughly an hour from them. The fact that they are made here in Texas, & local to me, was a big plus. Shipping to Florida may be costly but they should be able to help figure it out!
