I think a French door would look fine, and would add to the daylight coming in, within the limits of having the covered entry over the door. Adding a full window would be trickier, particularly if you want to try to match the brickwork under the window. Have you thought about inserting a small window in the boarded-up hole? Also, this looks like the perfect application for a solar tube.

If there is room for a slider or french doors on the interior, then I would do that, and at the same time, extend the porch, so you get a usable porch. Definitely put some type of window in the boarded up area. Right now, that looks very unfinished, and neglected.

One thing I just thought of is using a few smaller wood windows to make a larger one next to the current door and then running a storm on top. This is an example from a sun porch on another side of the house. Thoughts?

Hi Michael. If you wanted to open up the space/have enough room bi-folds are a great way to let light in whilst also creating a usable opening for when it's needed. It depends on the space you have and what you would want to use the opening for. :)
