bedroom is almost done but something is missing???

I’d love some suggestions on how to finish up this room for my dad while I’m visiting for the next couple days.
The rug’s size isn’t correct but should I keep with the same Sea grass style?
The palm pillows, peach bolster and white velvet textured euro are just cases and don’t have the insert. The Dalmatian pillow i was planning on putting behind the peach bolster in-font of the palm pillows.
Which pillows should I keep?
Lamps?
I feel like the room looks a little boring. Please help!

No on the wicker chairs to much golden tones in one space.

agree that it too much gold tone. perhaps metal or black or add something with a fabric seat. agree that it needs texture, but wicker is wrong color

Get really comfortable chairs. Something upholstered that you can sit in comfortably for hours and talk and laugh while nibbling on whatever food and drink is provided. Many fabrics are very child-friendly these days.

Put down two good size area rugs by sink and stove and forget about staining the floors. Find a color or pattern with a color (but not gold or brown) that you can carry into the areas adjacent to the room. Go look at fabrics or scarves or art that you and your husband enjoy and use that as your inspiration. I like the looks of that kitchen. And in my last house I never got around to putting up a backsplash because in the six years we lived there the paint stood up to frequent wipe-ups when anything splashed on it—and I do a lot of cooking!

Okay Ill pass on the chairs. Thank you for your suggestion. Everything in my house is in that brown orange darker tone so i agree it it would be nice to complement and not match it.

Kat - they are in Illinois. Sorry! $25 a piece too. Great deal!

I want to mail dad some green paint swatches. Have any suggestions?

The picture is not a bright emerald green.

Can you post a photo of the tropical pillows

It's such a coincidence. Just yesterday I saw the exact same chairs down here on Craigslist for $10 a piece! They're gone now so I presume someone grabbed them.

Wow I thought $25 each was a great price!

Stay away from the chairs! I bought them at a consignment store several years ago and sold them back in less than 2 years. They are terrifically uncomfortable and quite fragile.

Hopefully we can narrow down a green paint for the bedrooms back wall, so I can try it when I return to Florida next month.

In the mean time does anyone have any suggestion for that bathroom mirror and light fixture.
The vanity is 60” wide with a single sink. There is a herringbone mosaic up the back of the shower wall.

I was hoping to use the left over herringbone marble tile for up the wall From the counter to the ceiling but that’s not happening.

The vanity is between two walls. Should I look for a large round, oval, or rectangular? Depending on the shape of the mirror where should the lighting be placed?

I’m like the lighting on either side of the mirror however I’m not sure of that’s awkward since the vanity is between to the walls. What would you suggest?

Last thought for the evening...sorry! Since we can’t do tile up from the vanity I feel like this jack and Jill bathroom needs something more to spruce it up. Would you suggest a different countertop other then the white sparkle? Or a colorful patterned carpet runner? Do you know of a patterned carpet that would be appropriate for the bathroom?

Target has a nice round mirror and great price too..black or gold frame. If you can do sconces on each side of mirror that would look great.

Thank me you Julie! What size round with a 60” vanity?

Targets mirror is 28” do you think that’s big enough?

    10’ ceiling

    follow

It’s your father’s house. Does he prefer rectangle or round? Match the mirror frame to the faucet and/or vanity hardware. If the countertop is in good condition, keep it. This is a guest bath. As a guest I never care about the kind of countertop. I want nice linens and place to put my toiletries and my husband’s if he’s with me. Not long ago, we successfully shared a master bath in a townhouse that was bridge housing until our friends found a place to buy. It was a nice, but not up-to-the-minute, style, totally functional and pleasant, and that included age-in-place accommodations.

I saw this yesterday on Wayfair and thought the shape was a bit different.

So the vanity is 30” wide and I think you said walls on each side is that correct?

How about tying back to the green in the bedroom with a green and white wallpaper behind the vanity/mirror? Something graphic with a little black and use either black or white framed mirror and black and/or white towels..

Oh yes 28” wide is plenty may be too big depending on sconce placement...if you have walls that come out on each side the sconces could be placed in those side walls..with the 28” mirror.

Just re-looked at your photos of the bathroom and see that the wiring is already in the middle, not wired for sconces. How about using one of the new mirrors with built-in LEDs along the sides and solve both problems? My pet peeve in guest and hotel baths is bad lighting. In a bath, I would always choose function over decor. And, you’d probably save your dad a few bucks in the process (maybe enough to pay for the wallpaper 😉).

Is this the bathroom in your dads house?

draw out a 28” circle mirror over vanity...the wiring could very easily be moved to accommodate sconces. What counter top will it have?

    The outer ring is 28”

The counter appears wider than 30 inches, if the circle is 28 inches

Oh you need a much bigger mirror..are you going to move the lighting? That will dictate the mirror size.

    The light can me moved.
With a 60” vanity 10’ tall ceiling would you suggest a round? Or since the ceiling is tall would a big oval be better? And of course rectangle is a option.

    I have another mirror scenario....
41” circle mirror with frame over 48” vanity.
    The frame is 2” wide

Hopefully you can see the inner (mirror) outer (frame) circles
The rest of the bathroom will be getting a makeover

I would go with a round mirror and add sconces over the 60” vanity..the sconces can be placed up higher on each side.

Okay. Thank you Julie. I’ll stick with the round mirror for my dads 60” vanity.
Im sorry I stuck in another project that has a 48” vanity - does everyone think a 41” overall including 2” metal frame is too big?

  • PRO

No Not too big......I think it will look great..is that for your bathroom?

It’s my daughter’s bathroom- eventually. It’s put on hold for our flip but I came across the mirror on Facebook. $80 seems like a good price for that size mirror.
    Thanks again for your help.
